Russia
Over the last 24+ hours our administration has become practically apoplectic re the start of a Russian invasion of Ukraine....including the urgent plea for all Americans to leave the country. Seems to me that the most logical explanation for the sudden urgency is new US intelligence indicating invasion is imminent.
I don't understand it. The eyes of the entire world are focused on Russia/Putin. Everyone knows Russia faces no threat from Ukraine. Russia will be an international pariah if they invade. During the Olympics yet? Even senior level Russian military leaders have spoken out against invasion.
Further, nothing like an unprovoked, baseless invasion could possibly do more to finally get the attention of NATO member states,... surely resulting in forged unity, increased spending on defense, moves to separate economic ties with Russia, lessen energy dependence, etc....all actions that harm Russia in long term.

Putin knows all this. Why would he invade Ukraine? What does he imagine Russia will gain? Is the sudden US extreme urgency over the past two days a false alarm? Hope so.
