Explosion killed one, wounded 14 more in Badghis province
An explosion killed one and wounded fourteen worshipers in the Qala-e-naw mosque of northwestern Badghis province on Friday afternoon, February 11, 2022.
Local officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said that victims of the incident are all civilians and were targeted when the people were coming out of the mosque after having performed Friday prayer.
As per the officials, the explosion was caused after a grenade was thrown at the people.
Health officials in the provincial capital Qala-e-naw said that children aged up to 14 were also among the victims.
The Taliban officials in the city further said that ten suspects in the incident have also been arrested by security forces.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion.
Targeting worshipers in the mosques is not something new after the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, armed attacks on mosques in Kandahar and Kunduz provinces were the deadliest ones that carried in the first months of the Taliban rule.
ISIS-K had claimed responsibility for the attacks.
