Charlie Cox Gives Update On Daredevil & Kingpin MCU Future

0

Daredevil actor Charlie Cox reveals that he has no confirmation on what is happening with his character or with Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but believes that there’s still more to come. Cox played the titular role in the Netflix Daredevil series, released in 2015. The show was the first of an interconnected series of Marvel programs on the streaming platform that also included Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders (which featured their team-up, excluding The Punisher).

Following a series of cancellations throughout 2018 and 2019, these characters sat stagnant for several years, much to fans' chagrin. Due to contract stipulations, Marvel has been unable to use any of the characters from Netflix’s adaptations, at least not until two years after their series cancellation. With Marvel regaining the character's rights in late 2020, Cox’s Daredevil was one of several surprise characters seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Similarly, Cox’s co-star Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) made an appearance in the new Marvel TV series Hawkeye on Disney+.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cox discusses Daredevil’s future. He admits that he does have more information than he’s able to say, but still doesn’t know exactly what is going on with the characters. Although, he is optimistic about Daredevil’s return. Cox teases that he expects both himself and D’Onofrio will have more to do in the MCU's future. Read the full quote below:

Look, I don’t have any idea what anyone’s plans are at this stage, but I presume there’s more for us to do. I know a little bit — not a huge amount — but a little bit. I am imagining, I am hoping, that our worlds will collide again because the stuff we’ve done in the past was tremendous fun to do, and he’s such an incredible actor. We have to start every conversation with, ‘What do you know?’ because you have to be careful. It’s really exciting.

Even as Disney+ started making its own Marvel TV shows, The Defenders and the related series have remained on Netflix for fans to re-watch. However, recently it was announced that at of the end of February they would be removed from the platform, causing some confusion as to why a Netflix original series would leave Netflix. There has been no official word yet but this has led to the obvious assumption that they will eventually make their way to Disney+, alongside other Marvel TV shows like Wandavision and Loki.

Fans had been begging for years to see these characters revived and were ecstatic to see them on screen again. In the wake of his new appearance, Cox appears positive that Daredevil will be seen again, giving fans new hope. Although, this has resulted in many questions about when this will happen, if at all. There’s a chance that fans will see more from them soon, with the upcoming series Echo (centering around Maya Lopez) already having a direct link to Kingpin, it seems likely that D’Onofrio (and potentially Cox) will pop up there. While nothing is confirmed, with 2021’s surprise comebacks and the subsequent removal of Daredevil (and connected shows) from Netflix, it appears that Marvel has big plans for the future.
