RDR2 Players Finally Realize A Disgusting Detail After 4 Years

0

Nearly four years after Red Dead Redemption 2's release, a player stumbled across a disturbing details about deceased NPCs in the open-world. Rockstar Games is known for packing its adventures with an obessive amount of detail. Just last month, in fact, one Reddit user shared footage of an RDR2 NPC receiving black powder burns from a shotgun blast. Even spent bullets feature intricate markings that most players will only notice in the prequel's Photo Mode.

Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive released Red Dead Redemption 2 in October 2018, finally putting a stop to the eight-year wait for a proper Red Dead Redemption follow-up. A prequel to the 2010 PS3 and Xbox 360 title, RDR2 follows protagonist Arthur Morgan in the final months of the Van der Linde Gang's reign of terror on the American Frontier. The narrative perfectly sets the stage for the events of Red Dead Redemption and demonstrates Rockstar's commitment to fully immersing players in every facet of the experience. It should come as no surprise, then, that users continue to uncover new details about RDR2's characters and world.

Reddit user AllanRosckof (via GamesRadar) sparked a discussion recently about the decomposition of dead bodies in Red Dead Redemption 2. Notably, the Redditor returned to the body of an NPC they previously killed, only to find the corpse had entered the early stages of decomposition. The player revisited the scene a couple more times, with the last visit revealing nothing more than the skeleton of a man lying in the grass. While other players went back and forth on the topic, another Reddit user claimed to have seen similar decomposition on a bear corpse, noting that it took "several in-game days" for the body to fully decay and disappear. The original post from AllanRosckof appears as follows:

The above serves as but another example of a subtle Red Dead Redemption 2 detail that a vast majority of the user base will never notice while playing. It speaks volumes to Rockstar Games' elaborate style of game design. And that players still regularly stumble across new intricacies suggests there are even more that have yet to receive due appreciation.

Despite having hit store shelves a little more than three years ago, the Red Dead Redemption prequel continues to sell like hotcakes. In Take-Two Interactive's most recent quarterly earnings report, the publisher touted that RDR2 had moved an impressive 43 million copies worldwide. The open-world adventure now counts as the 10th best-selling game of all time. Meanwhile, Rockstar's other heavy-hitter, GTA V, has crossed 155 million units sold.
