Texas Chain Saw Massacre Game Will Have Three Killers, Not Just One

0

The upcoming Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game, created by Friday the 13th: The Game developer Gun Media, will put a new spin on asymmetric multiplayer survival. The terrifying game will pay tribute to the iconic horror franchise and its grotesque mascot Leatherface as he hunts down hapless survivors. After many rumors of the Friday the 13th dev making a The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game, the project was officially revealed at The Game Awards 2021 in December.

While not much is known about Gun Media' Texas Chain Saw Massacre game, the title is said to be an asymmetrical survival experience similar to Friday the 13th: The Game. That title pits a group of eight campers against the unstoppable Jason Voorhees, with maps set around the iconic Camp Crystal Lake. The survivors must work together to complete tasks, such as starting a car or calling the police, in order to escape the camp alive. Meanwhile, the player controlling Jason has access to various supernatural powers which allow them to butcher the survivors and thwart their escape. While Friday the 13th's Kane Hodder will appear in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as the slasher icon Leatherface, survivors will have more than one enemy to deal with in Gun Media's next project.

As detailed by Gun Media in a recent blog post, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will feature teams of four survivors and three killers. The developer reveals that the Sawyer family is just as important to the franchise as Leatherface himself, so the upcoming title will allow gamers to play as three members of the cannibal clan. This setup is a big change from Friday the 13th: The Game and the often-compared Dead by Daylight, and it has reportedly affected every aspect of the game. Everything from level design to character balance must be tweaked, and the 3v4 setup will create a more cooperative experience for the survivors and killers alike.

While the Texas Chain Saw Massacre game will focus entirely on Leatherface and his family of twisted killers, the iconic slasher villain has also made an appearance in other survival titles. The Texan terror and his powerful weapon have appeared in games like Mortal Kombat X and Call of Duty: Warzone, though Dead by Daylight removed Leatherface's mask due to recent reports of harassment. Behaviour Interactive's asymmetrical horror game includes many horror icons, like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Pinhead and Leatherface himself. However, some players were reportedly using one of Leatherface's dark-skinned masks to harass other gamers, leading to the mechanics' removal from the game.

While Jason is the sole focus of the Friday the 13th franchise, Gun Media has recognized that Leatherface is only one small part of what makes The Texas Chain Saw Massacre so terrifying. With three members of the ruthless Sawyer family pursuing a small group of survivors, the game promises to be an innovative take on the asymmetrical co-op multiplayer horror genre. Gun Media's next game will let the killers cooperate too, which should create an even more tense experience for horror fans to survive.
