The Boys' very own Hughie Campbell, Jack Quaid, is the latest to join the cast of Oppenheimer. Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan is helming the new movie after rolling out his recent WB tentpole, Tenet, to moderate success during the pandemic. But instead of sticking to the sci-fi, metaphysical themes that his films are conventionally known for, Nolan has turned towards historical drama, developing a project that is more akin to his Oscar-nominated masterpiece, Dunkirk. Nolan's Oppenheimer will focus on the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who ran the Manhattan Project, subsequently developing the first nuclear weapons that were deployed in the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII.
Scheduled to release on July 21, 2023, Nolan has already assembled a top-tier cast for Oppenheimer. Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy is playing the title character, while A Quiet Place's Emily Blunt is playing Murphy's onscreen wife, the communist botanist Katherine Oppenheimer. Also onboard are Robert Downey Jr. as Chair of the United States Atomic Energy Commission Lewis Strauss and Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, the Manhattan Project's director. Additionally, Florence Pugh will star as Jean Tatlock, Oppenheimer's love interest, withBenny Safdie portraying Edward Teller, a contributor to the Manhattan Project, who later negatively testified against Oppenheimer during a security hearing. Recently, news broke out that Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, and Rami Malek had also joined the film in undisclosed roles, and now the ensemble continues to grow bigger with another addition.
As reported by Deadline on Tuesday, actor Jack Quaid has joined Oppenheimer in an integral role. The details surrounding Quaid's character remain under wraps, and the actor too is yet to issue a statement about his casting. Universal Studious, which will distribute the Oppenheimer internationally and in the US, is also keeping the lid on Quaid's casting tight, as it refused to comment on the news about him joining the movie.

Quaid is undoubtedly on a roll currently. The actor is all geared up to steal the show later this year when the third season of his subversive, Emmy-nominated series, The Boys, arrives on Amazon Prime. Earlier this year, the actor also appeared as Richie Kirsch in Scream 5, Paramount's legacy sequel to the cult-favorite horror franchise which made a big splash at the box office. Another project that's been keeping Quaid occupied is the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, where he voices the character Boimler. Now the stat has added another feather in his cap by boarding Nolan's Oppenheimer.
For Oppenheimer, Quaid has joined a call sheet that already includes a bunch of Hollywood A-listers. Needless to say, the film is exploding with talent, and audiences expectations are also soaring. There is not much that can keep Oppenheimer from becoming a huge success, but for that, it's necessary that the movie learns from Tenet's missteps. The movie is distinctly different from everything that Nolan has done so far, and it will definitely be interesting to see how the director handles the controversial subject matter and transforms it into a magnificent, enthralling viewing experience.
