Attack on Titan's Armored Titan Recreated with Super Detailed Face Mask

0

Cosplayer Opheia_art has created an expertly detailed mask depicting Reiner Braun's Armored Titan form from Attack on Titan season 4. The Armored Titan first appeared in the series' second episode, with its identity only being revealed later on in Attack on Titan season 2. The fourth season explores the series from Reiner's perspective as a Warrior of Marley.

Appearing for the first time in "To You, in 2,000 Years: The Fall of Shiganshina, Part 2" in season 1 of Attack on Titan, the Armored Titan made its debut by resisting cannon fire when it destroyed the wall between the Shinganshina district and Wall Maria, allowing the Titans to enter the inner wall. It would make its return in the second season, where following the Female Titan incident, it was revealed that Reiner (Yoshimasa Hosoya) and Bertolt Hoover (Tomohisa Hashizume) were the Armored and Colossal Titans, sent to capture the Founding Titan. Attack on Titan season 4 would explore Reiner's past and allegiance, shifting from the Paradis setting to explore Marley. An Eldian who joined the Warrior Unit for his families' sake, Reiner took the main protagonist role for some time in the series, developing him from seemingly a traitor, to a fully fleshed-out character, and now one fan has taken it upon themselves to capture his Titan form in real life.

Uploading the clip to her Instagram, Opheia_art shared her latest piece of work, as well as the progress behind bringing the Armored Titan to life. The video showed Opheia_art sketching out a quick template, building up the base of the mask before sculpting the hair and armor plating with foam clay and painting. Opheia_art's final mask perfectly captures the portrait of Reiner's unique Titan form, with the paintwork bringing out the finely-sculpted details. A striking character in the long-running series, Reiner's Armored Titan form has some interesting real-life inspirations. In an interview, manga creator Hajime Isayama revealed that he took inspiration from real-world professional fighters when designing the highly capable gigantic designs of some of the Titan Shifter's forms. Differing greatly in numerous ways from standard Titans, Isayama states that he took inspiration from American-Canadian professional fighter Brock Lesnar for the design and fighting style of Reiner's Titan form. Later seasons of the show would explore the history of Titan Shifters, revealing how the powers are passed down and that Reiner's cousin, Gabi Braun (Ayane Sakura), is the next likely inheritor of Reiner's Armored Titan powers.

With the lines between hero and villain being blurred in the final season of Attack on Titan, Reiner has been given new depth. The character's betrayal of his friends was a shocking twist and painted him as a traitor for some time, with the fourth season revealing him as a more tragic figure who is more compassionate than believed. As one of the series' more developed, interesting characters, Opheia_art's mask is a detailed, brilliant piece that perfectly captures the powerful Titan.
