[Cheer & Dance] Cheer, Dance Hit Season-Best Scores; Host Regionals Next Week
Doane's Cheer and Dance squads were in action on Saturday morning in Seward as they participated in a pair of competitions. The Tiger Cheer team took on Waldorf and Dickinson State in two separate duals while the Dance team took on Saint Mary in their opening battle before a triangular with Hastings and Missouri Baptist.
For the Cheer squad, they defeated Waldorf, 74.85-40.15. The Tigers put together a cleaner performance in the second dual and recorded a season-high score but fell to the BlueHawks, 85.95-79.10.
The execution scores for the Tigers were the biggest improvement between the two competitions. In doing so, the team saw a little more than one-point improvement in the "Building Skills" and a two-point improvement in the "Tumbling/Jumping Skills".
The Dance team put together two strong performances on the day as they started off with an 80.60-58.95 win over Saint Mary. In the triangular, the Tigers recorded a season-best score of 82.40 to edge out Hastings (81.30) and Missouri Baptist (78.50).
Execution and Uniformity were the two scored sections that the Tigers saw slight improvements in for the top three categories of Jazz, Pom, and Hip Hop when comparing the team's two performances.
Next up for the teams will be the NAIA Regionals/GPAC Championships held at home once again this year. The Tigers will host the NAIA Northwest Regional/GPAC Championship for Dance on Friday, February 25, and the Cheer competition will be on Saturday, February 26. Both championships will take place at the Haddix Center. Admission for the postseason event is $10 for adults and $3 for students.
