Elektra is Doing the One Job Wolverine Never Can | Screen Rant
Warning: contains preview images for "Cut and Run," appearing in Elektra: Black, White and Blood #2!
One of deadliest assassins in the Marvel Universe, Elektra, is about to do the one job Wolverine never can. In a preview for “Cut and Run,” appearing in Elektra: Black, White and Blood #2, Wolverine asks Elektra to check on a friend of his, who has fallen in with a bad crowd; he reveals he is unable to do so himself, so entrusts her with the job. The issue is on sale in print and digital February 23.
Monochromatic anthology titles, built around a specific color, have become popular with both Marvel and DC. These books allow creators to tell unique and fun short stories, unencumbered by continuity issues. Marvel has reserved these anthologies for some of their bloodiest characters, such as Carnage, Deadpool, Moon Knight and Elektra. The previous issue of Elektra: Black, White and Blood demonstrated why these books have become so popular, as readers were treated to a vision of a vampiric Elektra, among others. Now, issue two is set to bring readers a fresh crop of bloody Elektra stories and in “Cut and Run,” she does a favor for Wolverine. The story is written by Peter David, illustrated by Greg Land, inked by Jay Leisten, colored by Frank D’Armata and lettered by Joe Caramagna.
The preview opens with Elektra and Wolverine (in his “Patch” outfit) meeting for dinner in Madripoor. He asks her if she remembers Joon. She does, and Wolverine informs Elektra that Joon has fallen in with a deadly assassin named Cesare. Wolverine is concerned for Joon and wants Elektra to track her down and make sure she is safe. Elektra asks why he does not do it himself, and he informs her that Cesare has a truce with Tyger Tiger—meaning Wolverine can do nothing in this case. Elektra vows she will not kill him, unless he “pisses [her] off.”
The preview ends there, leaving readers waiting until February 23 to see Elektra track down her quarry on Wolverine’s behalf. It was a huge sign of trust on Wolverine’s part—he is powerless to do anything about Joon himself, at least without triggering a major incident with his employers; he still needs the job done and trusts Elektra to finish it. Elektra, on the other hand, is not held back by formalities such as truces and treaties and is free to track Joon down and kill Cesare if necessary. Wolverine tells Elektra that Cesare is a dangerous assassin as well, maybe even better than her.
Elektra has a reputation for being savage and ruthless herself, and when she meets Cesare, it is almost certain sparks—and blood, will fly; Wolverine will also be rid of an enemy. Elektra and Wolverine are two of Marvel’s most savage killers, but in a preview for Elektra: Black, White and Blood #2, Logan entrusts her to carry out the one job he cannot.
