Harley Quinn Suicide Squad Wedding Dress Revealed In Ayer Cut Photo
A brand new image from the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad reveals Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) wearing a wedding dress. It's no secret that the 2016 Warner Bros. film was changed drastically following the divisive response to Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But nearly six years after it hit theaters, more information about director David Ayer's original iteration of Suicide Squad continues to come out, the latest of which offers a never-before-seen look at Harley Quinn.
Like Snyder with Justice League, Ayer has been vocal about the changes the studio made to Suicide Squad without his approval. Over the years, the filmmaker has opened up about Warner Bros.' meddling that included him having to rush reshoots to drastically change his original vision for Suicide Squad. The result, unfortunately, wasn't received that well. While the film had great individual performances, its narrative was too convoluted. Several plotlines were cut, and according to Ayer, even Harley Quinn's arc was eviscerated.
Now, thanks to a new Instagram post from kammoman (via CBR), fans can see an aspect of Harley Quinn's narrative that didn't make it to Suicide Squad's theatrical cut. In the image, the character is wearing a wedding dress smeared with her signature colors. According to the source, this was taken during the Los Angeles pick-ups for the blockbuster. Much has been said about the minimal role of Jared Leto's Joker in Suicide Squad and how he was originally going to be a more significant part of the story. But there's very little known about what Ayer's original plan was for Harley Quinn. While the director admitted to committing some mistakes when introducing the character in the film, fans are also curious what part of her arc was left on the editing room floor. As per the source, that includes a scene with her wearing a wedding dress. It's difficult to gauge the story behind the image, but it's possible that it's from a dream sequence or perhaps even a flashback.
Before the release of this aforementioned image, a clip from the so-called Ayer Cut was randomly released on Valentine's Day. It showed a more hostile Joker talking to Harley Quinn during the film's helicopter rescue scene in Suicide Squad. Between that and this new snap, it's curious if it's any indication that there's finally significant progress with regard to the Release the Ayer Cut movement. If anything, at this point, Warner Bros. can easily look at the success of Zack Snyder's Justice League and decide that it's a win-win situation to heed to fans' requests.
