10 Fox X-Men Characters Most Likely To Appear In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
The Super Bowl trailer for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness gave fans of Marvel movies a massive shock in the seeming appearance of Patrick Stewart, who many speculate to be reprising his role as Professor X from the Fox X-Men movies. If that's the case, then it opens the door to other characters from the popular X-Men movie series to appear alongside him.
Professor X could be the only character from the Fox X-Men franchise to appear, but there are aspects of the story in the upcoming movie, particularly to do with the Scarlet Witch, that suggest that might not be the case. In fact, the new movie could be the lynchpin to introducing mutants to the MCU and integrating the X-Men in the same way Spider-Man: No Way Home did other Spider-Man movie franchises.
10 Professor X
Professor X is not confirmed to appear in the upcoming movie, but the voice of Patrick Stewart is unmistakable. It's very likely he is in the movie and he is playing Professor X. It's only a matter of which version of the character he is playing.
It's likely he's a new variant from the multiverse, one connected to a secret council called the Illuminati. Comic book fans know the Illuminati is composed of Professor X and other major Marvel heroes, including some not in the MCU as of yet.
9 Mystique (First Class)
Mystique and Charles Xavier had a very close bond in the later X-Men movies, something that isn't present in the comics beyond one of the most unexpected X-Men romances, so it's possible that the Jennifer Lawerence version of the character could appear.
The younger version of Mystique died at the end of the Fox X-Men franchise, but that wouldn't be an obstacle for a variant of the character to appear and perhaps even infiltrate the MCU, setting up years of potential storylines.
8 Mystique (Rebecca Romjin)
There is already a variant of sorts of Mystique in the Fox X-Men movies. It's possible the Rebecca Romjin version appears in some form. This version was more closely linked to Magneto, and given the dynamics at play in the upcoming movie, both characters are possibilities.
Mystique could potentially play a unique role for the Illuminati. Her shapeshifting ability allows her to impersonate anyone anywhere, and she could serve as a spy throughout the multiverse. She has worked as a spy for Professor X in the comics at various points.
7 Apocalypse
Likely the longest shot in terms of Fox X-Men characters, Apocalypse is nevertheless the most intriguing. With Oscar Issac starring in the Moon Knight streaming series, a character with deep connections to ancient Egypt, the idea of him going back to En Sabah Nur is at least possible.
A quick cameo by Apocalypse would be an interesting way to link the X-Men movies and the MCU, especially if Apocalypse does emerge in the MCU following the biographical details of his comic book storyline. He's also been seen to work with Professor X, as a member of the Quiet Council of Krakoa in recent X-Men comics.
6 Storm
Storm doesn't have a great reason to be in the movie, but as one of the highest-profile characters in X-Men comics and the movies, she's certainly possible. She's definitely on the table if any one of the Illuminati on the council happens to be a variant of Black Panther.
Black Panther and Storm married in the early 2000s, one of the best relationships in Avengers comics, and it's possible that a multiversal version of the couple is connected to the Illuminati in some way.
5 Deadpool
Deadpool makes the most sense perhaps of any character from the Fox X-Men franchise to appear, given fans know he's coming to the MCU. His fourth-wall-breaking persona also allows him to fit right into any situation he finds himself in.
While it can be expected, the tone of Deadpool might preclude him from being in the movie. A cameo isn't out of the question, but he isn't likely to do much more than that given how serious the stakes seem to be in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.
4 X-23
A lot of fans likely expect Wolverine to appear in the movie given the possible presence of Professor X, but it might not be the one they expect. It's possible that X-23, the female clone of Wolverine from Logan, appears in the multiverse instead.
There are many powerful versions of Wolverine from Marvel Comics and anyone of them could be the MCU Wolverine. There's every chance that Laura Kinney ends up being the newest iteration going forward, played by Daphne Keene or perhaps another actress.
3 Quicksilver
Fans were likely somewhat disappointed when Evan Peters' character in WandaVision turned out to be Ralph Boner and not Quicksilver from the Fox X-Men movies as they expected. But he is very likely to appear in the new movie thanks to Wanda.
Wanda's story could lead her to a reckoning with other versions of her from the multiverse and perhaps some that are rooted in her comic book past, where she is the sister of Quicksilver and the daughter of Magneto.
2 Magneto
The Scarlet Witch's family history has been retconned a few times in the comics, most recently due to rights issues between Fox and Disney over the X-Men. Those no longer exist, opening the door to retconning the MCU Wanda to be the daughter of the Fox X-Men Magneto.
Ian McKellen could appear in the movie alongside Patrick Stewart, allowing the MCU Wanda to perhaps discover that her history in other universe is different, or inspire her to change it in the MCU in some version of the seminal House of M storyline.
1 Wolverine
The Fox X-Men character most likely to appear in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman. Fans have long wanted Jackman in the MCU and with Patrick Stewart seemingly reprising his iconic role, there's no reason Jackman wouldn't.
It might not be exactly what fans expect or want, as Jackman has long stated he is retired from the role. But it could be the moment fans have been waiting for ever since the MCU started, and a perfect capstone to Jackman's Wolverine in the movies.
