Channing Tatum Cast In US Reboot of Acclaimed Drama System Crasher
The acclaimed German film System Crasher is getting a US remake, which is set to star Channing Tatum. The original System Crasher follows the story of a young girl named Bernadette, also known as Beni, as she deals with her traumatic past. She is labelled as a “system crasher” after constantly being moved around child-services homes due to her aggressive behaviour. Beni eventually forms an unlikely bond with her new anger-management coach, finding peace and eventually developing a passion for boxing. System Crasher gained recognition in Europe on its release in 2019, being nominated for three awards at the 32nd European Film Awards.
According to Deadline, Tatum will be starring in the American adaptation of System Crasher, as MGM has acquired the rights to remake the German film. The deal comes as MGM and United Artists released Dog, Tatum’s latest film, this week. Nora Fingscheidt, who wrote and directed the German original, will be the executive producer of the US remake of System Crasher, with Dog’s producer Garret Levitz writing the film’s script. A director has yet to be announced.
The critically acclaimed drama film was Finscheidt’s first feature film, with her career focusing more on documentaries before System Crasher’s release. The director recently helmed the Sandra Bullock-led Netflix drama The Unforgivable, which was released in December last year. As for the film’s star, Tatum recently took a four-year break from acting and returned to the screen with a surprise appearance in Free Guy opposite Ryan Reynolds. After Dog’s release this month, Tatum’s next film will be The Lost City, starring alongside Bullock and Daniel Radcliffe. It will no doubt be exciting news to many to hear that Tatum is getting back into acting again, marking his return with interesting projects like System Crasher that have yet to break the US market.
