Tom Holland Sent Simu Liu A Hilarious Voicemail After Watching Shang Chi

0

Simu Liu reveals that Tom Holland sent him a hilarious voicemail after watching Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Liu's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut broke a number of box-office records when it hit theatres last September, bringing in an impressive $430 million at the global box office. Following its mid-pandemic release, Shang-Chi was hailed for its stunning visual effects and standout cast. The film saw Liu star as the titular character, while Awkwafina played his best friend, Katy, as the pair took on the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

Liu's fellow Marvel co-star, Holland, has had a strong start to the year following the release of his latest film, Uncharted, which sees the much-loved video games series brought to life on the big screen. This past week saw his most recent MCU appearance, Spider-Man: No Way Home, enter the #3 spot of the highest-grossing films of all time at the domestic box office, overtaking James Cameron's Avatar. Both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Way Home take place within the MCU's Phase 4, with each film having laid some incredibly exciting groundwork for what is to come within the MCU.

Now, Liu reveals that Holland actually reached out to him after watching Shang-Chi, sending a hilarious voicemail to express his excitement. While recently onstage at the Havdalah & BBYO Honors ceremony (via @ShangChiBR), Liu plays the voicemail to the audience, in which Holland enthusiastically tells him "Dude, I just watched Shang-Chi bro, that film is so f***ing awesome." The voicemail receives an incredibly excited response from the audience. Check out the clip below:

Holland being a fan of his fellow co-star's project comes as no surprise, since the 25-year-old has previously expressed his love for Marvel films despite his direct involvement with them. Both Liu and Holland have previously spoken about the various crossovers they would like to see within the future of the MCU, with Liu even saying he would love for Shang-Chi and Spider-Man team-up at some point. During the run-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home's release, Liu took to Twitter to reference all of the cameo rumors that surrounded the film, joking that he was offended that no one had assumed he was in it.

Holland's hilarious voicemail is certainly sweet and it seems to have been very much appreciated by Liu, who was incredibly excited to share it while onstage. Both actors seemingly have packed schedules ahead, with Liu having recently joined Greta Gerwig's upcoming Barbie movie and Holland set to star in his currently untitled Fred Astaire biopic. With Marvel Studios having recently confirmed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be getting both a sequel and a spinoff series, a Spider-Man crossover may be more likely than ever, given the multiversal possibilities that Spider-Man: No Way Home opened the door to, but fans will just have to keep their fingers crossed for now.
