90 Day Fiancé: Ben Defends Mahogany & Claims She's 'Very Real' In Selfie
Ben Rathbun shocked 90 Day Fiancé fans by posting a romantic selfie with Mahogany Roca on Instagram amidst fans accusing her of being an actress. A lot of fans had qualms about the authenticity of Ben and Mahogany’s relationship when they first heard him describe his future wife with photos so filtered that she didn’t even look real. While Mahogany kept ghosting Ben when he arrived in Peru on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, he wondered if he was getting scammed by a Nigerian man again. But Mahogany presented herself, albeit without filters, at the San Bartolo restaurant, only to reveal she had no feelings for 52-year-old Ben.
The Mahogany that fans met on 90 Day Fiancé hesitated to say “I love you” to Ben. She spoke English fluently, even though Ben previously claimed that they had a language barrier between them. Mahogany claimed that she didn’t even want to meet Ben because her parents were afraid of his motives. And when it came to Ben revealing that he did find Mahogany looking different than in her “doctored” social media photos, she alleged that he wasn’t as big and muscular as he looked in his own modeling photos. Fans found Ben’s creepy behavior at an all-time high during the scene. In Ben’s head, he had already married Mahogany and had four more kids, but she ended up swerving his kiss.
On Instagram, however, Ben continued to praise Mahogany for how “real” she is. Former pastor Ben posted a sweet selfie with Mahogany from their second date, which takes place in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days episode 11. “Our very first selfie,” Ben wrote in his caption for the rare reveal of Mahogany on his Instagram feed. “Visiting San Bartolo and chasing my dreams meant taking a lot of hits to my reputation,” Ben admitted. He added that anything worth having comes with a price. Still, Ben also added that it was a “very happy moment” for both him and Mahogany, whom he described as “true and non-catfish, very real and very unusually named for Peru” in an Instagram Story.
“I love that name BTW!” Ben gushed about his 90 Day Fiancé girlfriend Mahogany. Fans didn’t respond kindly to Ben’s selfie with Mahogany, though, as some of them left comments such as, “I’m still not convinced this is who you’ve been communicating with lol” and “90 day fiancé hired these 2.” One TLC viewer noted that Mahogany didn’t show up at the airport to receive Ben because she felt embarrassed for using filters on her face. The fan explained that Mahogany may not be an actress but was “persuaded” by the 90 Day Fiancé producers to make an appearance. “Either she was super nervous because of her dramatically different appearance or she’s been using him,” they claimed.
While Mahogany didn’t comment on her being a production plant, she previously explained the origins of her interesting name. She said her full name is actually Mahogany Roca Diaz and that her name actually means “caoba.” According to Mahogany, her name was picked by her dad who had first heard it when he was a kid. Her dad has been discussed a lot of times on 90 Day Fiancé as he continues to doubt Ben’s intentions. In the next episode, Ben tells Mahogany that her dad has been influencing her into believing that he's coming to Peru for the wrong reasons. But will Mahogany, who’s not even bothered to act like she’s the one who wanted him to know “what it is to be loved,” be okay with Ben meeting her parents?
