Putin asks parliament for right to use Russian military abroad

The Russian Senate is now considering the authorization of the president’s request for military deployment

President Vladimir Putin has requested the upper chamber of the Russian parliament to use the country’s armed forces abroad, the Senate speaker said on Tuesday, adding that the legislature will announce its decision shortly.

The request has been already weighed by the Senate’s committees, the Speaker of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, has said. The meeting of the Russian Senate is being broadcast live.
