The Hills: Spencer Pratt Says Most Of The Dates On The Show Were Staged
MTV may have canceled The Hills spinoff, but Spencer Pratt is keeping the show alive for fans on TikTok, where he recently revealed a certain date he went on with costar Audrina Patridge was completely staged. During his time on the original show, Spencer was the producers' go-to villain, mainly because he didn't get along with the show's protagonist, Lauren Conrad. A lot of the star's storylines revolved around his ongoing feud with wife Heidi Montag's ex-best friend. With his unapologetic attitude, he was the perfect antagonist for the reality series. Now, he's revisiting his time on the show via TikTok and reminiscing.
In the premiere episode of The Hills' season 2, Spencer was seemingly dating Heidi and Audrina at the same time. After getting dinner with his now-wife, Spencer took Audrina to get frozen yogurt the next day, where the two discussed where she and Heidi stand as friends. At the time, they were not getting along as Heidi believed Audrina was flirting with Spencer despite knowing the two were seeing each other. The pair seemed very flirty, with Spencer seemingly having Audrina's back and taking her side in the fight with Heidi.
However, The Hills star has now revealed that the whole scene was staged, as were many other dates from the show. On his TikTok, Spencer shared a video of himself rewatching the clip from the episode and revealed to fans what was really going on. Prior to doing The Hills, Spencer executive produced and starred on the short-lived Fox reality series Princes of Malibu with his best friend Brody Jenner and his family. The show shared a producer with The Hills, and according to Spencer, they worked together to produce a scene to elevate the television drama. Spencer claims he was never actually going on a date with Audrina.
"I can see why this would look bad now in retrospect," Spencer explained. "But, at the time, I thought, 'wow, this is gonna be great TV." The star also revealed that while the show made it look like he was cheating on Heidi with Audrina, the two were not exclusive, and Heidi was actually going on dates too, with a celebrity he chose not to name. This was not aired during the show, though Spencer wishes it was. While the Looped Live star admits producers manipulated the scene to make it seem like a date, he also added that he does not agree with some of the stuff he said to Audrina. For example, telling Audrina, he'll be her team member in her fight against Heidi and Lauren.
It's no surprise that not all reality tv is as real as it claims to be. This certainly isn't the first time Spencer has revealed the truth behind some of The Hills scenes. In fact, a lot of the show's stars, like Kristin Cavallari and Justin Bobby Brescia, have admitted to how much of the show was fake. Fake or not, fans still love it, and they're absolutely loving Spencer's TikTok reviews. While he makes his way through the series, he'll surely find plenty of other infamous moments from The Hills to shine some truth on.
