A new trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land has revealed some of the powerful abilities possessed by his Carby form. It was revealed during the February 2022 Nintendo Direct that Kirby's Mouthful Mode lets him swallow a car, giving him the traits of a motor vehicle and earning the fan nickname, Carby.
Kirby's main ability throughout his series involves swallowing his foes and copying their abilities, which even happens in the Super Smash Bros. series. Kirby and the Forgotten Land extends this ability to machines, as Kirby's Mouthful Mode allows him to bond with technology, in a manner similar to that of the Venom symbiote. Kirby's Mouthful Mode allows him to swallow a light bulb and create flashes of light, fire cans from a vending machine, break through weak points with a traffic cone, or spray water after inflating himself like a balloon. He still retains his classic copy ability and its individual powers can now be upgraded throughout Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
Fans awaiting the game already know Kirby and the Forgotten Land will include guns, but the series is getting closer to Grand Theft Auto than many may have realized, as evidenced by a new trailer from the official Nintendo of Europe Twitter page. The video shows off the capabilities of Carby, which will not only run down Kirby's enemies, but will also allow him to smash through the weak spots in walls, showing the memed mode isn't just hilarious to look at, but also devastatingly powerful in action.
The Carby form improves Kirby's movement speed and lets him use a booster to go even faster, where he can smash through enemy forces, rocks, break walls, and knock over obstacles. The Carby form also has a jump, but it appears to be a single bounce, rather than his floating multi-stage jump that Kirby uses when not attached to a vehicle. It's unclear if Kirby will instantly lose access to his Forgotten Land Mouthful Mode abilities upon taking a hit, as he usually does with his copy powers. Kirby and the Forgotten Land's new copy abilities already give Kirby a potent new arsenal, but some of the Mouthful Modes are on a whole new level in terms of utility.
There was already a lot of buzz surrounding Kirby and the Forgotten Land when it was first announced, as it's going to be the first true 3D Kirby experience, with a level of polish that many have compared to Super Mario Odyssey. The Mouthful Mode and Carby memes have taken the hype to whole new levels, as fans cannot wait to turn the latest Kirby game into their own cartoon version of Carmageddon, and wreak havoc on those who dare oppose the pink puffball. Carby quickly became the source of memes and its presence might help Kirby race ahead of the competition when the game launches in March.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land launches on Nintendo Switch on March 25, 2022.
