Pretty Little Liars: The Main Characters, Ranked By Bravery
If teen drama characters need courage, it would definitely be Alison DiLaurentis and her friends on Pretty Little Liars. From Spencer Hastings, Emily Fields, Hanna Marin, and Aria Montgomery searching for their stalker to Ali talking about where she went when she ran away, the characters are constantly facing terror, death, and nightmare scenarios.
While life in the tiny town of Rosewood requires bravery and confidence, along with a certain amount of foresight and perception, some of the main characters on Pretty Little Liars have more bravery in their daily battle against A than others.
10 Aria Montgomery
Aria's complex relationship with Ezra Fitz makes up much of her PLL storylines, and when compared to her friends and the other love interests on the show, Aria doesn't feel as courageous.
While Aria does spy on people sometimes, and she's just as caught up in A's game as the others, Aria often seems like she's too focused on her dramatic romance with Ezra to really try to protect her friends and family from this threat.
9 Ezra Fitz
Ezra's relationship with bravery is a bit complicated. Ezra shows that he can be strong and focused when he dates Ali so he can write about her, and he also joins the A Team so he can do some serious spying.
While the other main love interests Toby Cavanaugh and Caleb Rivers get involved so they help keep their partners safe, Ezra's motivations are always selfish. Ezra doesn't seem to realize how dangerous it is to get involved with A and all the people involved.
8 Toby Cavanaugh
Toby shows some bravery when he becomes a police officer in order to protect Spencer and the others. But even though Toby wants to help others and he's a caring member of his community, it never feels like Toby really puts himself in harm's way.
While Toby loves Spencer, he often seems overwhelmed and upset by her complicated life. Although it's confusing when Toby falls for someone else near the end of the show, this plotline does prove that Toby wants a happy, regular life free of horrors. Toby would definitely prefer to stay out of trouble, making him seem less brave.
7 Caleb Rivers
Caleb would seem like he had much more courage if it wasn't for the five liars who are constantly dealing with A and the A Team.
For the most part, Caleb is confident despite his sad and tough past, and he will do anything to save his soulmate Hanna. In the best Hanna and Caleb PLL episodes, Caleb proves that he'll investigate anything that seems to threaten their happiness and safety. Caleb also doesn't mind being inconvenienced or putting himself out to help others, like when he moves to Ravenswood.
6 Emily Fields
Emily is sweet and has many heartwarming plotlines as she falls in love with Maya St. Germain and Paige McCullers. Emily is somewhere in the middle when it comes to brave Pretty Little Liars characters because while she's friendly and trusting toward new people, that can be a problem as she doesn't realize who is a threat.
Emily is all for trying new things and having adventures, from pursuing her passion for swimming on the Rosewood High team to going away to college. But Emily also feels things deeply and can let fear take over, thanks to the awful effect that A has on her life.
5 Spencer Hastings
Spencer might have more reasons to be brave than her friends and peers in Rosewood. Spencer stands up to her older sister Melissa, forges ahead with future plans despite the uncertainty thanks to A, and spends time in terrifying Radley. Throughout it all, Spencer knows that she can get through hard times.
Through bold statements about what she's thinking and feeling, Spencer doesn't hold back and her actions allow fans to see her courage.
4 Hanna Marin
Hanna's immature PLL moments are balanced out by her smart realizations and quotes, and Hanna definitely has a brave personality.
Hanna proves her strength through everything that she experiences, from family conflict to sadness over breaking up with Caleb to wondering if she can marry Jordan Hobart. Hanna is targeted by A even more than her good friends, as she's kidnapped and hit by a car, and she shows that she can make it through each time. Hanna is good at ignoring her fear and doing what needs to be done to survive.
3 Ashley Marin
Hanna's mom Ashley shows an incredible amount of strength in the face of pain and adversity on Pretty Little Liars. When Ashley steals from her job and hides it, it's one of the most shocking moments on the teen drama, but also proof that she does what needs to be done, like her daughter.
Ashley ignores what her head is saying and often follows her heart, and Ashley bravely goes down some scary roads, dating a police officer to protect Hanna and committing a crime at work.
2 Alison DiLaurentis
While Ali's Pretty Little Liars character is nice but evil, depending on what season it is, Ali learns to be strong and brave.
As soon as Ali runs away from home, she becomes involved in a world that she never thought that she would know about, as it's all about secrets, pain, hiding, and trying to beat others at their game. Before Ali leaves town, she's the Queen Bee known for being popular and hurting other people's feelings, and Ali moves through her life bravely as she likes being in charge.
1 Mona Vanderwaal
Whether she's the first A, part of A's team, or showing up in the dollhouse episodes at the beginning of season 6, Mona Vanderwaal knows how to play any game that she's a part of. Mona can be vulnerable, but most of all, she's willing to push any feelings and thoughts aside so she can win and get what she is looking for.
Mona is definitely the bravest PLL character thanks to her ability to join forces with others who are doing evil deeds and working toward a common goal. Mona doesn't stop to think about danger or consequences because in her mind, she's exactly where she needs to be.
