Legends of Tomorrow Season 8 Would Make New DC Hero A Main Character
WARNING: This article includes MAJOR spoilers from the Legends of Tomorrow season 7 finale.
Donald Faison's Booster Gold will be a series regular on Legends of Tomorrow if it gets picked up for season 8. While Greg Berlanti's Arrowverse shows deal with super-villains constantly, they are currently facing a real-life obstacle: lack of renewals. The CW usually renews most of their shows during January/February, as has been the case in the last few years, and even the pandemic didn't shake this timeline. This has, in turn, allowed the respective writers' room to start prepping the following season's storylines early.
However, 2022 is proving different, due to the recent news that WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS, co-owners of The CW, are putting the network up for sale. Despite several Arrowverse shows having wrapped their latest seasons, the creative teams have yet to learn if they will be renewed or canceled, which includes Legends of Tomorrow. For the first time in seven years, the time-traveling drama ended on a cliffhanger without knowing if it would ever get an on-screen resolution. The Arrowverse offshoot also used its finale to introduce Faison, who had been tapped to portray a mystery character.
As the Legends of Tomorrow season 7 finale confirmed Faison to be playing DC's Booster Gold, fans should be ready to see more of him. In an interview with DCLegendsTV, showrunner Keto Shimizu reveals that, if Legends of Tomorrow season 8 is greenlit, Faison will be a series regular. The cast change comes right as Nick Zano, who has played Citizen Steel since season 2, is exiting the show as a main cast member. It remains to be seen if there will be any other adjustments in the main line-up, should Legends of Tomorrow be renewed.
Faison being revealed as Booster Gold, as exciting as it was, didn't come as a major shock. While still choosing to keep his character name under wraps, the Legends of Tomorrow team made it abundantly clear that he was playing the futuristic DC hero. When announced that he'd debut in the Legends of Tomorrow season 7 finale, the breakdown teased Faison's character to have some very famous Booster Gold traits, which sparked the massive speculation. He is now the second actor to play Michael Jon Carter in live-action, following Eric Martsolf, who brought the hero to life in Smallville season 10.
Even though Legends of Tomorrow doesn't use a lot of DC Comics characters in general, Booster Gold joining the Arrowverse is a perfect fit. With the amount of comedy beats that Legends of Tomorrow has, Faison's hero will blend right in. While the show also deals with futuristic elements, it's been a while since Legends of Tomorrow explored that, and having Booster Gold as a regular player would allow Legends of Tomorrow season 8 to possibly visit the future in some capacity. Hopefully, depending on the status of The CW's sale, Legends of Tomorrow fans will learn sooner rather than later about the show's fate.
