The first phase of polling on 28 February in India’s north-eastern state of Manipur was marred by incidents of violence. An explosion in Churachandpur district on 26 February killed three people and left several injured, and unidentified attackers killed a candidate for the Janata Dal – United (JDU) party in Imphal East district on 27 February.
