The DMK leadership has chosen a bunch of young, educated loyalists to head the urban local bodies in the state. It has fielded mayor candidates for 20 out of 21 corporations. Kumbakonam corporation mayor post has been given to Congress. It has fielded 15 deputy mayoral candidates and has given six deputy mayor posts to its allies. Eleven of the mayoral candidates and five deputy mayor candidates are women. Election for the heads of urban local bodies will be held on Friday. As the DMK enjoys brutal majority in most corporations, elections are not likely to throw up surprises.
