Netflix: Best New TV Shows & Movies This Weekend (March 4)
This weekend, Netflix is adding a docuseries, a survival movie, a thriller movie, and a drama TV series. Although cinemas around the world continue to work as normal and studios keep releasing the movies that had to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, streaming services haven’t lost any force, and they are still the main source of entertainment for many. In Netflix’s case, the streaming giant keeps adding new licensed and original content every week, ensuring that its subscribers always have something to watch.
Last weekend saw the arrival of Rob Zombie’s Halloween along with the interactive animated movie Cat Burglar, Tyler Perry’s comedy A Madea Homecoming, and the historical drama Vikings: Valhalla, the sequel series to Vikings. As it does on the first days of every month, Netflix will add a bunch of licensed content, most notably Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street and its 2010 remake, the horror crossover Freddy vs Jason, the thriller Contagion, fan-favorites Shrek and Shrek 2, the horror movie Texas Chainsaw 3D, the drama The Shawshank Redemption, and Tony Scott’s Top Gun.
As for original content, Netflix will welcome a docuseries about dangerous roommates, a survival movie based on a true story, a thriller movie starring Leighton Meester, and a drama TV series. Here are the best movies and TV shows coming to Netflix this weekend - March 6.
Worst Roommate Ever is a docuseries produced by Blumhouse Television. Through five episodes, Worst Roommate Ever highlights four harrowing tales of seemingly harmless roommates turning into real-life nightmares for their unsuspecting victims when their malevolent and sometimes violent intentions are revealed. These unsettling true stories chronicle the masked menace that can be lurking right down the hall.
Against the Ice is a historical survival movie directed by Peter Flinth and based on the true story recounted in Two Against the Ice by Ejnar Mikkelsen. In 1909, Denmark’s Arctic Expedition led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) was attempting to disprove the United States’ claim to Northeast Greenland, which was based on the assumption that Greenland was broken up into two different pieces of land. Leaving his crew behind with the ship, Mikkelsen embarks on a journey across the ice with his inexperienced crew member, Iver Iversen (Joe Cole). Returning to the ship takes longer and is much harder than expected, and after battling extreme hunger, fatigue, and a polar bear attack, they finally arrive to find their ship crushed in the ice and the camp abandoned. Hoping to be rescued, they now must fight to stay alive. As the days grow longer, their mental hold on reality starts to fade, breeding mistrust and paranoia, a dangerous cocktail in their fight for survival.
The Weekend Away is a thriller movie directed by Kim Farrant and based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Alderson. A weekend getaway to Croatia goes awry when Beth (Leighton Meester) is accused of killing her best friend Kate (Christina Wolfe) and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret. Also starring are Luke Norris, Amar Bukvić, and Ziad Bakri.
Pieces of Her is a thriller drama TV series based on the novel of the same name by Karin Slaughter. Pieces of Her is the story of Andy Oliver (Bella Heathcote), who is caught in a deadly mass shooting at a local diner – but moments later, she witnesses her mother, Laura (Toni Collette), violently eliminating the threat with ease. As Andy unravels her mother's actions on that very day, her perspective on their entire familial relationship takes a new turn, and not long after, figures from her mother's past reappear, forcing her to escape. While on the journey, she attempts to piece together the remnants of truth that her mother buried long ago.
