I’m a tattoo artist – four areas to never get inked if you have a low pain tolerance and where to get one instead

AN OREGON-based tattoo artist wants to help people prepare for their tattoo appointments, so she revealed what she believes are the most painful spots to get one.

For those with a lower pain tolerance, she also shared less hurtful areas to place your ink.

“I always tell people generally speaking most points towards a joint tend to hurt, so around your knee, like the back of your knee,” Katana, the tattoo artist, shared.

She added that the elbow is a tender spot as well.

“But another place that really, really hurts is your ribcage, all the way across your stomach and your other ribcage.

“And of course I have to mention the feet,” she continued.

She also thinks the fingers, the hands, and the armpits are spots to avoid if you’re not welcoming of discomfort.

SAFE TATTOO SPOTS

On the flip side, Katana shared places she thinks are perfect for people getting a tattoo for the first time or who have low pain tolerance.

“In my opinion, I would definitely stick with either the front or inside of the forearm or this upper arm area,” she said, showing her bicep area.

“Another placement that I don’t really think hurts that bad is the shin.”

She added that she always recommends people get a tattoo where they can see it, so not their back.

To further educate viewers, Katana brought an unnamed co-worker into the video to share his opinions.

He agreed with Katana’s advice to tattoo the inner forearm or bicep area.

He also said the top of the thigh and side of the thigh “are not too bad.”

Viewers generally agreed with Katana’s tips and shared some of their own tattoo stories.

“[My first tattoo] was my ribs not the smartest move but I thought hey get the worst over with then the rest won’t hurt as much,” one person admitted.

A different viewer who received their first tattoo on their forearm said they would definitely recommend it.

“First one I got a year ago was on my inner ankle at the sock line and didn’t feel a thing other than a little tickle,” a third person added.

While Katana is trying to help people have the best tattoo experience possible, she can’t do much to prepare people for if their tattoos go wrong.

That has unfortunately happened to several people, like one woman who asked for a simple tattoo, but ended up getting something that looked like it had been drawn by a toddler.

Plus, another woman revealed she got a tattoo on her 18th birthday, but admitted it came out horribly.
