Watch Roberto Carlos score on SUNDAY LEAGUE debut in Shrewsbury aged 48 but World Cup winner still suffers loss
WORLD CUP-winning Brazil legend Roberto Carlos scored in an English Sunday league match on Friday.
Carlos officially retired from football in 2015 after winning three Champions League titles with Real Madrid as well as the 2002 World Cup with the Brazilian national team, for which he amassed 125 caps.
But the famous left-back took part in a charity ‘Dream Transfer’ raffle on eBay in January and was won by Bull in the Barne United, who earned his services for one match.
The 48-year-old competed against fellow Greenhous Shrewsbury and District Sunday League Division 1 team Harlescott Rangers at a packed Hanwood Village Hall Recreation Centre.
The ex-Inter Milan star came on for Bull, who are named after a local pub in Shrewsbury, as a first-half substitute and played in midfield.
The former Fenerbahce ace returned to the bench at the start of the second half but was invited to take a late penalty.
Carlos rolled back the year by sending the ball to the opposing goalkeeper’s bottom left corner with a clinical finish before returning to the dugout.
However, that wasn’t enough to help his team avoid a 4-3 loss during the friendly match.

The Brazilian great was very excited to be part of that initiative and return to the pitch in England, where he revealed he almost moved in his glory days to play for Birmingham.
Carlos said before the match: “I’m excited to play for Bull in the Barne in Shrewsbury, paying homage to when I nearly signed for Birmingham City in the 90s, which is very close by.
“I’ve heard that the team’s been down a number of players this season, so here’s hoping my training is enough to help them up their game and bring what Bull in the Barne’s fans want to see!”
