People don’t believe I’m almost 67, they assume I’m full of Botox – here are my 4 top skincare tips

A YOUTUBER who looks much younger than she is has come clean about her beauty routine.

Despite people assuming she must get Botox, she explained why she medically can’t and just how she has achieved her youthful appearance.

The woman, who goes by @msmelissa55 online and has seemingly flawless skin, began her video by addressing people who accused her of having Botox.

“I’ll be 67 in April,” she revealed.

“I cannot for medical reasons ever have Botox … fillers, surgery, anything like that.

“So I have to depend on skincare.”

In the caption of her video, she wrote that she has Chron’s disease, which affects her digestive tract.

Melissa then shared exactly how she took care of her skin over the years, which has apparently made her look much younger than what she is.

POWERFUL SOLUTIONS

“I’ve used Retin-A or Tretinoin since 1987or 1988,” she shared.

Retin-A and tretinoin are interchangeable terms for a specific type of vitamin A.

According to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the topical treatment “improves the cosmetic appearance of the skin, but it also helps treat some functional problems of the skin such as acne and precancerous conditions, such as actinic keratoses.”

Melissa said she started using the Obagi Nu Derm system a few years later, but uses just two of their products now.

The Obaji NU Derm skincare brand offers prescription-necessary skin treatments meant to even one’s skin tone and help with hyperpigmentation, melasma, and sun spots.

It is also thought to help the skin appear plumper and improve its laxity.

APT Medical Aesthetics noted that “skin laxity occurs when the skin loses its firmness and structure and becomes loose and starts to sag,” a common sign of aging.

Melissa explained that one of the brand’s core ingredients is hydroquinone, a topical agent used specifically to target hyperpigmentation.

She also noted she uses a Vitamin C serum, although she did not name the specific product.

SHE SAID WHAT NOW?

And finally, Melissa shared that she avoids using moisturizer, which seems to be the cardinal skincare sin to most modern dermatologists.

“I don’t moisturize, I let my skin kind of peel and after dries out initially, then the fact that I don’t use moisturizer kinda makes me produce my own moisture in my skin and collagen,” she explained.

“I hope that helps,” she concluded.

Viewers were shocked and even slightly confused by Melissa’s admission that she completely forgoes moisturizer.

And while a quick Google search brings articles upon articles warning that not moisturizing your skin is a terrible mistake, one dermatologist told Byrdie that moisturizer isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Dermatologist Zein Obagi, MD told the site that moisturizer prevents the skin from naturally exfoliating and can deter the skin’s natural balance.

Everyone’s skin is different, so it’s best to speak to a professional about your particular skin issues and needs if you want a clearer understanding of how to care for it.

PEOPLE ARE STILL IN DISBELIEF

Of course, users were equally as shocked that Melissa is almost 70 years old.

“Wow I cannot believe you’re 67!!!

“Amazing skin and you’re one of the few not using a filter.

“Good for you! Truly beautiful!!” one viewer exclaimed.

“I am in awe of your beauty.

“You don’t look a day over 40,” another person commented.

Yet a third surprised user wrote: “I never can get over your age. A true beauty.”

People had a similar reaction to another woman who looks much younger than she actually is.

In fact, people thought she was 20 years old until she let her gray hair fully grow in.
