Pochettino ‘not going to Man Utd’, as Tottenham insider’s stunning claims on Prem return surface

0

Mauricio Pochettino wants to return to Premier League management – but with Tottenham and not Manchester United, according to an insider.

Pochettino left Spurs in November 2019 following a fall from grace from the heights of the Champions League final. Indeed, the Argentine had given Tottenham major hope of ending their trophy drought but could not sustain his progress.

As a result, he took time out of management before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in January 2021. And Pochettino extended his contract last July until the summer of 2023.

Since then, though, doubt over his future has emerged. Man Utd are reportedly after him in their search for a long-term successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In response, PSG sporting director Leonardo claimed this week that Pochettino looks “increasingly committed” to the club. Nevertheless, links with his exit remain.

According to a Spurs contact of talkSPORT host Alan Brazil, the 50-year-old still wants a Premier League return. However, Pochettino instead wants a stunning return to north London.

“Pochettino is not going to United – Man Utd have been warned by PSG sporting director [Leonardo] that Pochettino has no intention of leaving Paris,” Brazil told talkSPORT.

“Well, I tell you right now, that is not the case. From the horses mouth, Poch wants to come back to the Premier [League] and he wants to come back with Tottenham.”

“He wants to come back to Spurs, I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but it’s what he wants.”

Brazil added, though, that Pochettino would “be a fool to say no” to Man Utd if a Spurs return became impossible.

The Argentine reportedly ranks as United’s leading candidate to also succeed interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

However, football director John Murtough recently spoke of a “thorough process” in Man Utd’s hunt.

As a result, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has supposedly been installed as a contingency plan.

Pochettino considered in pivotal Man Utd appointment

Whoever United appoint as their next manager, they will hit the ground running with a busy few months.

There are calls from many pundits for further first-team investment in the summer transfer window.

While a new striker signing is a growing priority amid 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo’s career coming to an end, a new midfield signing such as Declan Rice has also been urged.

United are also facing a raft of player exits this summer and at the end of next season.

Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani will all likely leave as free agents this summer.

Next summer, meanwhile, the contracts of Nemanja Matic, Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, Ronaldo and David de Gea – among others – are all set to expire.

Although, Rashford, Ronaldo and De Gea all have the option of another year.
