Gravity Falls: The Main Characters, Ranked By Funniness

0

Gravity Falls is an incredibly funny show, filled with a large cast of hilarious characters. While even the side characters can be comedically gifted, usually it's the main characters who get to show off how quirky they are.

Each main character is different, and this allows for a lot of funny interactions, though it does also mean that some main characters are funnier than others. Either some have a more naturally funny persona, or they simply get more screentime to make jokes, but naturally, there has become a hierarchy of funniness.

10 Grunkle Ford

Since he first appears in the second half of season 2, Ford, unfortunately, doesn't get a lot of screentime, meaning that he doesn't get quite as much chance to shine in the humor department as some of the other characters. However, he does still have a lot of funny aspects to him.

His nerdiness and love for all things science are often played for laughs. The whole episode of him and Dipper playing Dungeons and Dragons is hilarious. There is also the fact that Ford has been stuck in another dimension for years, so he is unaccustomed to regular life, which leads to him comedically giving small children deadly weapons as presents.

9 Wendy

Wendy has her moments of craziness, such as when she hates a popular rap song that everyone else loves. But often Wendy doesn't get to be super funny because her main character trait is how chill she is about everything, therefore her lines are quite subdued.

This trait can lead to laughs, such as when she admits that she is stressed out all the time. And when Wendy does get a funny line, voice actor Linda Cardellini does a great job at bringing Wendy's humor to life, and Wendy is considered by Rotten Tomatoes to be one of Linda Cardellini's best roles.

8 Robbie

Robbie can be considered a minor antagonist and is generally creepy and unlikable, but just like every Gravity Falls character, he has his funny moments. The fact that he is angsty and emo is pushed to the extreme, which leads to him having loud and dramatic speeches about his life that the other characters barely react to.

Robbie is often the butt of the joke, such as when he mourns being dumped by Wendy by dramatically laying in a grave, only to be ignored by everyone and then attacked by a vulture. His obsession with Wendy leads to a lot of great jokes.

7 Bill Cipher

Bill Cipher is the show's main villain, and he is incredibly sadistic and frightening. However, this surprisingly leads to a lot of laughs. Even though he is a demon, he often acts like a frat kid who just wants to party with his friends, so the final episodes of the show have a lot of jokes stemming from this concept.

Bill also likes to make the people around him uncomfortable, and he often does this by gifting them disturbing items, like deer teeth, which leads to very funny reactions. His rather frightening sense of humor is why Gravity Falls is an animated series that all ages can appreciate.

6 Pacifica

While Pacifica is one of Gravity Fall's most hated characters, she is still incredibly funny. As Gravity Fall's resident mean girl, she is a meta rendition of the "one-dimensional bleach blonde valley girl stereotype." Therefore, her nastiness and snobbery are pushed to the extreme in opposition with the Pines family, as is the fact that her family is incredibly rich.

Pacifica did get a redemption arc, which many fans were excited to see, but it was a shame that her redemption meant that she lost a lot of her Queen Bee traits, so she would no longer be the hilarious caricature that she once was.

5 Dipper

Dipper is usually the straight man in humorous situations, but his dedication to being serious is often what makes him so funny. This seriousness ties into his crush on Wendy, as he constantly tries to strategize how to win her affection, including making clones of himself or whispering to himself creepily whenever he makes a mistake, and all of these plans lead to disastrous and hilarious results.

While Dipper being made fun of for not being masculine enough is a form of humor that hasn't aged super well, it is funny when he dramatically defeats the wax figure of Sherlock Holmes, only for him to suddenly sneeze "like a kitten."

4 Soos

Soos is arguably the least intelligent character of the show, and that's usually what makes him so funny. His lack of intelligence mixed with his genuine kindness and naive personality makes him a character that tends to land in sticky yet hilarious situations. It is often his quotes that hit comedy gold, such as when Dipper sees a version of himself dying painfully, and Soos simply responds, "Good luck sleeping tonight!"

Granted, the fat jokes that are often made at his expense haven't aged super well, but overall it's impossible not to love Soos, and it's impossible not to laugh at him either.

3 Gideon

Gideon is a hilarious villain from the moment that he appears. The fact that Stan's major nemesis is a literal child whose whole thing is cuteness is a great joke, and it only gets better from there. Gideon is spoiled and borderline sociopathic, and it's hilarious watching such a tiny child go into such bloodlust-fueled rages throughout the first season.

Furthermore, his more childlike activities, such as when he needs help being lifted, or when he tries to learn how to ride a skateboard, are somehow just as funny because he fails so spectacularly. His obsession with Mabel, while creepy, also lends itself to funny jokes from time to time.

2 Mabel

Mabel is probably the most iconic character in the whole show. She is incredibly quotable, and her upbeat quirky attitude brings life to the series. She is arguably the funniest character in a lot of the episodes, and though she can act sporadically and selfish at times, she has a good heart, which somehow makes the zany situations she gets stuck in even funnier.

The way that Mabel sees the world lends itself to a ton of jokes, as the audience is often treated to a 1980s psychedelic-themed wonderland, filled with boybands and just cute boys in general. This allows for some surrealist humor, and it works every time.

1 Grunkle Stan

Grunkle Stan is one of those characters that viewers may not have fully appreciated as kids but now adore as adults. His humor can be dirty and dark, but as the show is for a younger audience he never goes too far, just far enough to be hilarious.

His funniness involves his obsession with money, his pulling of his friends and family into his money-making schemes, his violent rivalry with Gideon, who is a literal child, and even the painful past that Stan hides is often played for laughs. He is probably the main reason why people keep coming back to the show, even as adults.
