Leicester City are reported to have been in touch with Tottenham regards a summer swoop for central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Carter-Vickers has failed to make an impact during his time with Spurs, but is now in demand. That is down to the fact he is impressing while on loan at Celtic and an orderly queue is starting to form. It means Carter-Vickers will not be short of offers in the summer.
For starters Celtic have already made it clear they would like to sign him on a permanent basis. Indeed they do have the option to buy for a fee in excess of £10million which could put them in the box seat.
But that will not deter the Foxes from making a move and they have already tested the water. A report from SBI soccer is claiming that Leicester have made Tottenham aware of their interest.
Leicester City face competition for Carter-Vickers
The report says Premier League rivals Wolves and Watford have also been in touch. The interest does not end there as West Ham and Burnley are keen along with Championship sides Middlesbrough, West Brom and Bournemouth.
It is no surprise to see the interest hotting up as Carter-Vickers has been outstanding for the Hoops.
The eight-cap USA international has played 90 minutes in all but one Scottish Premiership game this term. He has helped Ange Postecoglou’s side keep 11 top-flight clean sheets.
Replicating such form south of the border will be the test but it seems Leicester and co would take a gamble.
Antonio Conte himself could be having second thoughts about letting him go and the Spurs boss has a decision to make.
The defender looked destined for the Tottenham exit door but his performances at Parkhead could have earned him a lifeline.
The kind of form he is producing is hard to ignore and Conte could be tempted to keep hold. At the very least he may opt to have a good look at him in pre-season before making the call.
Conte may keep hold
The Italian tactician will no doubt be looking to bolster his defence in the summer and it is hard to see Carter-Vickers fitting in. A squad role could be the best hope, but Carter-Vickers will want more.
Playing regular first-team football in a winning Celtic side would be hard to give up. And wherever he ends up, sitting on the bench will not be an option.
There is a good chance Carter-Vickers will push for a move away and Celtic are the hot fancies to land him. But the chance to stay in the Premier League with the Foxes could also be tough for him to turn down.
A lot can happen between now and the end of the season, but one thing looks certain. Carter-Vickers will be in demand this summer.
