10 Things Fans Want To See In Total War: Warhammer 3, According To Reddit
Fans of Total War: Warhammer know there is plenty that is still to come in upcoming patches and DLC, and they have quite the wish list
With Total War: Warhammer III's launch new conflicts and factions are on the rise. Plenty of exciting new mechanics have been added by Creative Assembly; everything from Build-A-Bear Workshop style demons to giant Kung-Fu statues. The new factions and mechanics are great ways to shake up the Total War: Warhammer formula.
Despite these exciting additions, fans of Total War: Warhammer know plenty is still to come in upcoming patches and DLC. They have quite the wish list that includes both features from classic Total War games, and some things from the very expansive world of classic Warhammer.
Mercenaries have been a big part of Total War games for a long time, and with the addition of Ogre mercs to Total War: Warhammer II, it seems like a no-brainer that the original sell sword faction from Warhammer Fantasy might finally make an appearance in the future.
Some fans on Reddit are already speculating how such a faction could add something new without retreading familiar ground. Reddit user Cryoteer suggested "To start off you would not be able to hold territory, and you would not have any passive income. You can construct a camp in a region that gives you access to local merc troops and standard missions that can be completed for money."
Fans are already champing at the bit for Chaos Dwarfs, a faction known for a love of industry, hobgoblin auxiliaries, and demonic trains. As a fan-favorite faction, it's no wonder that so many fans want to see them included in Warhammer III.
Reddit user Thswherizat explained their appeal: "The idea that there's few of them but they have the slaves, the machines and the monsters is also a cool switch from the standard Dwarf type army, where you still have elite infantry but add in the monsters that the Dwarfs lack. Their whole 'magic slowly turns them to stone but they use it anyway' is super cool as well, and I'm interested to see if they put that in game at all."
It's always annoying in any Total War game when allies declare war on one of the players' precious vassals, undermining both their devious empire-building and their immersion. It appears this will continue to be a problem in Warhammer III despite vassals being a major game mechanic for some factions.
Some fans have proposed some relatively easy fixes that almost seem like no-brainers. Reddit user Goodkat203 says, "Easy fix: make it impossible to declare war on vassals. You must declare on the overlord." This would certainly make the AI, or even the player, reconsider declaring war on any vassal without proper forethought.
One long-time feature of classic Total War was pre-battle speeches as full-on cutscenes that included context for battles and also demonstrated the personality traits of commanders. Although some legendary leaders, like Tsarina Katarin, will be making speeches before battle in Warhammer III, they will not be cutscenes and appear to be pretty generic.
This is a missed opportunity for Creative Assembly who has already done a great deal to give the Warhammer universe so much character in their games. As Reddit user MoffyPollock puts it, "I want to hear dwarf lords making elf jokes before regular campaign battles with elves. Or reading off some serious grudges about beastmen or greenskins to get their dwarves pumped up to fight."
In Warhammer III, Be'lakor is the final boss. He's a servant of Chaos so powerful he could rank as one of the most powerful supervillains of all time in any other setting. It's recently been revealed that this powerful and ancient deamon prince will actually be playable in custom battles but will not have his own campaign. For many fans of the ruinous forces of Chaos this is something of a disappointment. But making a final boss an eventual DLC or free unlockable raises the question of how such a campaign would look.
Reddit user AlexandarSN had a novel suggestion: "All the campaigns are about taking Ursun from Belakor? Then Belakor's campaign should be about protecting their prize from the other races. Have him break the usurpers beneath his heel, subjugating each race in his wake as the second Undivided LL (Legendary Lord)."
The events of Warhammer III take place in the frozen and Chaos-infested northern wastes. It's safe to say it's not a fictional place many fans wish was real. It's this hellscape that the warlike Norscan tribes call home and with Warhammer III happening right in their backyard, it makes sense that this old faction might get some much-needed love.
Reddit user Lefty_Gamer really put a lot of thought into it and suggested not just a slew of new units, but a great new idea for a lore-friendly Legendary Lord in Beorg Bearstruck. As Lefty_Gamer puts it, "The Were-Bear Chieftain of the Ursfjording tribe, Beorg Bearstruck is the best candidate for the Norsca Lord Pack as he is a marauder chieftain, and werekin with the Were-Bear mutation making him thematic and unique amongst our current selection."
Speaking of Norsca's backyard, fans are also hoping that The Warriors of Chaos get some much-needed love, even if Chaos is already having its day in the spotlight. Lefty_Gamer has come up with a great idea for some new lore-friendly units and legendary lords. Lefty_Gamer wrote "Sayl the Faithless is a Chaos Sorcerer Lord renowned for his self-serving behavior and betrayal, even in his dealings with Daemons. I think Sayl is going to be the DLC Lord for WoC as he is a perfect candidate to give them a LL Caster."
later in the same post, they add a renowned Khorne warrior to the mix: "...With Sigvald hopefully moved to the Slaanesh race, Vardek Crom, the Herald of Archaon and Bringer of Storms, should come in as the FLC lord to fill Sigvald's shoes as the footbound duelist."
The new musical themes in Warhammer III have so far been excellent, with some perhaps belonging alongside some of the best battle themes of all time. With each of the new Warhammer III factions getting their own music it seems criminal that some essential factions from the previous games (Empire, Dwarfs, Bretonnia) will still be stuck sharing the same old themes from the original Total War: Warhammer.
For Reddit user EthanRedOtter this has gone on for long enough, "The Empire should keep all the generic Order tracks since they seem to be clearly geared to them anyway, but for goodness sake I don't want to hear a choir sing Sigmar's name when I'm settling grudges."
The voice acting in the Total War: Warhammer games so far has been stellar and has included voice-over work from some big names, like Warhammer super fan Henry Cavill. However, in the newer games, some of the older factions are looking a little neglected. This means some factions from the original Total War: Warhammer has the same generic diplomacy lines when speaking to factions from newer games, rather than the more dynamic and amusing interactions new races have.
Fans would like to see some new dialogue reflecting interactions between the new factions and the old. As Reddit user mrsir231 wrote "By Sigmar I hope so. I want to hear Dwarfs trash talking High and Dark Elves."
In Total War: Warhammer factions can build secret structures in other factions' settlements, but the player has to constantly be sending agents from one of their settlements to the far-flung territories they want to undermine. Fans want to see this process streamlined.
As GrandLordMorskittar writes "To make the process of creating and expanding these mini-settlements more useful to both the player and AI, I think agents that have the ability to create them should be recruitable from one of the possible building options that are provided."
