Fake Thor: Love & Thunder Poster Used To Promote MCU Movie At Theaters
A movie theater has used a fake Thor: Love and Thunder poster to promote the upcoming film. Marvel Studios is gearing up for the fourth solo movie for Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder after he survived the events of the Infinity Saga. Thor: Love and Thunder will reunite the actor with Taika Waititi, who also helmed Thor: Ragnarok. Despite the blockbuster's approaching release slated for July, its marketing campaign has yet to start in earnest, forcing some establishments to use fan-made materials to promote it.
The project was announced during Marvel Studios' 2019 SDCC panel, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film, as well as Marvel Studios' whole Phase 4 slate, was significantly pushed back. Plot details are still tightly under wraps for Thor: Love and Thunder, specifically concerning Thor's arc in the film. But, audiences have some idea of what to expect from other aspects of its narrative. That includes the return of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, who is getting her superhero persona as Mighty Thor. Meanwhile, Christian Bale will be the movie's primary antagonist as Gorr the God Butcher.
Since Marvel Studios doesn't seem to be kicking off the marketing campaign for Thor: Love and Thunder any time soon, one cinema has used a fan-made poster to promote its upcoming release. The image, which was shared on social media by Twitter account, Thor: Love and Thunder News, can be seen below:

The poster is a mock-up of several other images slapped with the official Thor: Love and Thunder logo. At this point, it's worth remembering that Marvel Studios hasn't really released any official looks at the characters for the movie, although tie-in merchandise has offered fans looks for Thor and Mighty Thor's respective costumes. For those who aren't as plugged in with what's going on with the MCU, it's easy to buy into the idea that this one-sheet is legitimate. But, for those who have been closely monitoring Marvel Studios' marketing efforts, the fact that Heimdall (Idris Elba), who's front and center, is even featured despite previously dying in Avengers: Infinity War is immediately a red flag. Nonetheless, it gets the word out there that there's a new Thor film coming out this year.
For context, the tweet references Spider-Man: No Way Home because there was a time that this was also the case for the Marvel Studios and Sony collaboration. Promotional materials didn't drop until a couple of months before the film hit theaters. In any case, it didn't really matter considering that it became both a box office and critical hit. For Thor: Love and Thunder, however, fans should expect that Marvel Studios also has the leeway to kick off their marketing efforts for the blockbuster later considering how popular the character is. Aside from that, they're also currently focused on promotion for both Moon Knight and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
