Ypsilanti, Michigan – Fresh off the program's first-ever KCAC championship, the Friends University Competitive Cheer Falcons were awarded the opportunity to compete at this weekend's NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance National Championship meet in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
"To have been able to reach Nationals and perform on the biggest stage was an honor in itself," said Friends competitive cheer head coach Joshua Johnson.
"For the first time in program history this team won its conference championship and to do that with five seniors and a team full of freshman and sophomores is remarkable and I am very proud of each person on this team. We want to congratulate Xavier on their national championship this year. To our family, the city of Wichita, and to Friends University- we say thank you very much for your support this year."
The Falcons finished 15th overall with score of 68.22 over the preliminary and final round.
Xavier's winning score was 93.70, the highest point total in NAIA championship history.
Indiana Wesleyan University, St. Ambrose University (Iowa), Dickinson State University (N.D.) and Concordia Ann Arbor (Mich.) made up the top five.
"Where do we go from here?" asked Johnson. "We keep our Faith in Christ and continue to build this program the right way while staying motivated and humbled at the same time. God bless and as always…. Go Falcons."
