James Gunn Debunks Guardians of the Galaxy Prequel Show Rumor
Director James Gunn has recently debunked a rumor about a potential Guardians of the Galaxy prequel series with Disney+. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a ragtag team of space adventurers who first joined the MCU back in 2014. The movie's lovable characters quickly struck a chord with Marvel fans, and the Guardians quickly became fan favorites among the MCU line-up. Since the first film's release, the Guardians have been found in the sequel film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (also helmed by Gunn), Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to arrive in 2023, once again directed by Gunn.
For some time, rumors have been circulating that Disney+ is in the process of creating a Guardians of the Galaxy prequel series with Gunn. While in reality there is no credible source stating that this show exists at all, many fans still seem to believe it. This perhaps has been helped along by a recent interview with Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, in which she stated that Gamora would be a character whose backstory she would like to explore more. While Saldana made this statement honestly, it is possible some have taken this as a hint that the MCU prequel series is real.
While Gunn has not said anything one way or the other about the series' existence, he has been active in shutting rumors down about what its plot would involve. In a recent tweet from Gunn, he debunked a rumor from Twitter page Moth Culture, which stated that there was a rumor the Guardians of the Galaxy series would focus on Gamora's "family-like relationship with Nebula and Thanos." Gunn has begun his response to this rumor bluntly by stating, "lol no." Gunn goes on to point out that it is well known that Thanos tortured both Gamora and Nebula growing up, which does not seem like a "'family-like' relationship" to him. See his full tweet below:

As it turns out, this is not the first time Gunn has debunked a rumor that started on Moth Culture. Less than a month ago, Moth Culture posted a rumor that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would include a shortlist of modern music on its soundtrack, which Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) collected during his time on Earth after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Gunn responded bluntly to this tweet as well, beginning with "nope." Gunn goes on to debunk this rumor stating that Quill immediately left Earth after Avengers: Endgame.
While there is still no word on whether or not the mysterious Guardians of the Galaxy prequel series even exists, fans can rest assured that Gunn will at least be honest with his fans. In a world where any information can be shared on the internet, whether it is correct or not, it is certainly comforting to know that creators like Gunn are at the ready, willing to snuff out any misinformation before it spreads too far across the web. Gunn has not yet revealed whether fans will be treated to a Guardians of the Galaxy prequel series. However, it is likely Gunn would have been honest with fans if it actually existed.
