Killing Eve Series Finale Will Be Emotional & Satisfying Teases Writer
Killing Eve head writer Laura Neal promises the upcoming series finale will be satisfying and emotional. Across four seasons and just as many head writers, Killing Eve has chronicled one of the most compelling dynamics on television, and it'll soon come to an end; the BBC America series' fourth season, which is airing now, will be its last. Killing Eve stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer as the central pair of onetime MI5 agent Eve Polastri and fashionable assassin Villanelle; Fiona Shaw and Kim Bodnia round out the remaining members of Killing Eve's original cast.
Killing Eve season 4 is still fairly early on, yet there have already been some intriguing developments. Eve is still pressing on with her mission to take down the shadowy organization known as the Twelve, and it's very clear she is no longer the meeker woman she was at the start of the series. Meanwhile, Villanelle tried to connect with Jesus for a bit, but the second episode of Killing Eve season 4 showed just how fruitless that endeavor actually was.
Killing Eve still has several episodes to go before it comes to an end, but many are already looking ahead to the finish line. That includes season 4's writer Laura Neal, who just spoke to TVLine following episode 3. The finale will air on April 10, meaning Neal still can't say much about how the episode will pan out. However, she was able to give her perspective on the finale, saying, "I think fans can expect an exciting, thrilling, emotional, satisfying end to these two extraordinary characters’ journeys."
Series finales are tricky. Those that are done properly, like the finales for Breaking Bad and The Good Place, can help give their shows a place in television history. However, if a finale goes wrong, or just fails to impress fans (as seen with Game of Thrones and How I Met Your Mother), a show's entire legacy can be tainted. In the case of Killing Eve, the series has its fans and remains a well-acted showcase for Oh and Comer. However, it hasn't been without its criticisms over the years.
Because of that, there is extra pressure on Killing Eve to get its ending right. The relationship between Eve and Villanelle is so pivotal to the entire series that one has to hope that it will be right at the center of the finale. The two women didn't exactly start season 4 on the right foot, but with several weeks still to go, anything can happen. Even the developments of episode 3 aren't enough to hint at where the ending will lead; viewers will just have to tune in to see how it all goes down.
Killing Eve season 4 airs new episodes Sundays on BBC America.
