Chris Pine Hints His New Bearded Look May Be For an Upcoming Role
All the Old Knives actor Chris Pine has hinted that his new bearded and long-haired look may be fore a new role, perhaps even in a 70's era biopic
Chris Pine has hinted that his new bearded look could be for a new role. All the Old Knives is the actor's latest film. The Amazon original tells the tale of two CIA agents and ex-lovers who reunite at Carmel-by-the-sea to retrace the events of an old mission where an agent may have been compromised. The film is helmed by Janus Metz, along with Pine stars Thandiwe Newton and Laurence Fishburne. All the Old Knives is set to be released both in theatres and on Amazon Prime Video on April 8th.
Pine is not an actor known for changing his look drastically between films. When most people think of the actor, they picture him with short-cropped hair and cleanly shaven as he appears in many of his movies, such as J.J. Abrams' Star Trek and its sequels and the DCEU's Wonder Woman. On occasion, Pine has been known to grow out his hair and facial hair slightly as he did for his role in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, though he's always remained recognizable as Pine. Recently, things seem to have changed somewhat for the actor.
At the premiere for All the Old Knives, Pine appeared sporting long hair and a well-grown salt and pepper beard. During the premiere, Pine spoke to ET about the new look. Pine has stated that the look was born out of "equal parts laziness" and something the actor may do in the future. Pine also admitted that he'll take any excuse "not to shave and have makeup put on." When asked if the "something" in the actor's future was a role, Pine simply said "maybe," before joking that "it's mostly just laziness." See Pine's full quote below:
"I guess it's like, equal parts laziness and equal parts something I may do in the future here. If there's any excuse not to shave and have makeup put on, I, you know.."
It has been speculated that this mysterious new role could be for some 70's era biopic. As well as his facial hair, Pine also attended the All the Old Knives premiere sporting a cream-colored suit that had a very 70's feel to it. Pine has described the look as his "Gregg Allman" look, though also admitted that his publicist thinks he looks "like a Bee Gee." This leads to some speculation about whether these looks are being emulated deliberately, perhaps to manifest a new role.
Of course, this is only speculation as no real information has been given about whether there is a "new role" at all. Though some may point out that there's no real reason to answer "maybe" when asked if the look was for a new role if there isn't one. Unfortunately, Pine fans will have to be patient until more information is given. Pine is a highly sought-after actor in Hollywood, so ultimately, the new role could be nearly anything. Until more clues surface, fans can get their Chris Pine fix when All the Old Knives premieres on Amazon Prime.
