We bought a new build and turned it into our Happy Home, people are always surprised when they see the inside
A COUPLE who have worked hard to transform their new build into a colourful “happy house”, and love it when people are surprised to see inside.
Mel has been sharing her home makeover on her social media pages, on her A Whole New Build account.
In a recent TikTok video tour of the property, Mel explained: “This is our house.
“It might not have period features and high ceilings.
“The decor might not be to everyone’s taste and there are DIY mistakes that only I know about.
“There’s rooms I still want to update but we love living here.”
She concluded: “Our house is a happy house, it makes us smile and that’s what makes it a home.”
In the video tour, she began in the teal living room, with patterned wallpaper and a lightning bolt neon light, before going into the mermaid-themed bathroom and jungle-themed bedroom.
The kitchen is pink and teal, with a pink neon light on the wall, while the pair transformed their son’s room into a rainbow-themed paradise.
In another video, Mel explained: “I love it when my home surprises people!

“We’ve worked really hard to create a space that makes us smile and it’s great when those smiles spread to you guys.”
She captioned the clip: “It’s so nice to smash new build stereotypes! @awholenewbuild.”
She also responded to someone who wished her “luck” when it comes to selling the property.
“I think as a society we are totally conditioned to think about keeping our homes neutral and ready for the next person,” she said.
“For us, we bought this house with the intention of staying here quite a long time. I don’t see us moving anytime soon.
“We’ve been here seven years already so why would I not want to decorate my home in a way that makes me happy when I’m the one paying the mortgage.”
