Nicolas Cage Has a Hilariously Random Reason Behind His SXSW Suit
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent actor Nicolas Cage has revealed the hilarious reason behind his suit choice for South By South West. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is Cage's latest film, and serves as somewhat of an ode to his career. The film, helmed by Tom Gormican, follows Cage playing a cash strapped version of himself who makes a paid appearance at a billionaire fan's birthday party which quickly turns chaotic. The film is jam packed with Cage references for fans from any corner of the actor's body of work. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is set to open in theatres on April 22.
One of Cage's defining features as an actor is his willingness to take seemingly any role offered to him. Over the years, the actor's body of work has been so extensive and has included films that range so broadly in genre and quality that it is hard to nail down exactly what Cage's brand is. If there's something that is Cage's second-most defining feature, it would likely be that he is no stranger to exciting fashion choices. Cage has appeared at many special Hollywood events over the years, with some memorable outfit choices including a shiny multi-coloured suit, and a hot pink leather jacket with the Superman logo emblazoned on the back.
Cage recently appeared at SXSW to promote The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and this time he appeared in a brand new plaid suit. In a recent video posted by the Lionsgate official Instagram page, Cage has revealed the inspiration behind his suit choice. According to Cage, he "really likes shortbread." Cage has gone on to explain that whenever he finds himself in England he indulges himself in shortbread, which put him in a shortbread mood. In a hilarious Cage move, he decided that for this particular event, he wanted to dress like he himself "was a can of shortbread." See the full video below:

Cage went on to explain that a more reasonable reason he was wearing the suit was because he had never owned a plaid suit before. According to Cage, he was busy filming his new project Renfield in which he plays Dracula himself, and realized he had nothing to wear to SXSW. He walked into a store and happened upon the suit, and decided to buy it as he had never owned a plaid one before. While this is a cute story, it is likely that fans of Cage's shenanigans will prefer his shortbread answer more.
Cage has proved that he is still delightfully out there, which bodes well for fans hoping to see the actor in all his glory in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. No matter the real reason Cage decided to buy that suit, he did wind up looking somewhat like a tin of shortbread, and hopefully that will bring him a little bit of joy while he works tirelessly to promote his new movie. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent premieres in a little over a month, and is not to missed my any major Cage fan.
