The latest series launching on Disney+ hails from France — a sci-fi tale titled Parallels, with a teen cast and vibe similar to Stranger Things.
Parallels, a French original series, is coming to the Disney+ streaming service. Disney's platform has been expanding its international content as it looks to add 100 new titles per year. Earlier this year, Snowdrop became the first Korean drama to hit Disney+ in the U.S. Likewise, Parallels will be one of the first French productions to air on the platform.
According to Variety, the six-episodeDisney+ series Parallels will take on a vibe similar to hit Netflix show Stranger Things. Per the show's official description, the plot follows four teenagers "whose lives are turned upside down when a mysterious event scatters the group into different timelines." The young friends must then make sense of the incident as they attempt to return to their former lives. Watch the full Parallels trailer below.
Parallels is expected to premiere on Disney+ in both the U.S. and international markets. According to show creator Quoc Dang Tran, who is known for his work in other French thrillers like Marianne and Nox, sci-fi is a genre rarely explored in France. Tran co-wrote Parallels with Anastasia Heinzl and produced the show through Daïmôn Films (with Raphaël Rocher) and Eric Laroche at Empreinte Digitale. The series is directed by Benjamin Rocher and Jean-Batiste Saurel.
The teen-driven cast includes many fresh faces. Playing the four leads are Thomas Chomel as Sam Deslandes, Timoté Rigault as Bilal Belkebirs, Victoria Eber as Romane Berthauds and Maxime Bergeron as Victor Deslandes. The cast also includes Gillaume Labbé, Omar Mebrouk and Jules Houplain. All six episodes of Parallels will premiere worldwide on March 23, and the series' trailer certainly gives merit to its Stranger Things comparisons. With a plucky young cast and eerie sci-fi story, Parallels is shaping up to be as bizarre, nail-biting and entertaining as its Netflix predecessor.
