BOTW's Old Man Has a Hidden Dialogue Reaction When Set On Fire

0

It looks like the Old Man/King of Hyrule character from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has a unique line of dialog when Link sets him ablaze. The 2017 Nintendo Switch and Wii U release is one of few games that continues to surprise even its most dedicated fans years after its release, with BOTW players regularly finding new ways to solve the game's many puzzles and dungeons.

In Breath of the Wild, players begin in an area known as The Great Plateau. Situated above Hyrule's most iconic locations, The Great Plateau serves as a sort of training area for players before they embark on their journey to save the land from Calamity Ganon. It is during these opening moments that most players are introduced to the game's many unique mechanics, including its temperature-management and element systems. This cleverly integrated tutorial section is guided by an enigmatic old man who points Link in the right direction, eventually providing him with his glider - an essential part of the BOTW experience. While this man is initially presented as one of BOTW's many mysteries, it is revealed to Link at the end of this section that he is actually the King of Hyrule and father to the titular Zelda.

While Breath of the Wild fans might have thought they learned everything there is to know about this character, it appears that there was at least one more secret to uncover, albeit a relatively minor one. A video uploaded by Reddit user bigslimyfish shows Link starting a fire under the Old Man, aided by several bundles of wood that serve as fuel. Upon being set on fire, the Old Man casually says "toasty". The fire does not appear to cause any actual damage to the Old Man.

The comments on the post are filled with jokes about this character's controversial parenting style. Several fans seem to almost revel in his immolation, with bigslimyfish themselves stating "someone had to do it". Zelda's father may not be as feared as something like BOTW's Lynel enemies, but it looks like he still doesn't get too much love from the fans.

Whether or not the act of burning this character was justified, the presence of this unique bit of dialog is fascinating, showcasing just how full of secrets BOTW truly is. While it's unclear if this line can be extracted through other means, comments on the post indicate that it is a relatively unknown occurrence. Moments like this one will surely make many players wonder what other surprises The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still has up its sleeve.
