Brundle Pulls Out Of FIA WEC Season Opener After Positive COVID Test
Inter Europol LMP2 driver Alex Brundle will not race this weekend at the FIA WEC season opener after testing positive for COVID 19 at Sebring.
Alex will be replaced at the wheel of the #34 Oreca by Fabio Scherer who will therefore serve double duty alongside his IMSA drive in the High Class Racing Oreca. Scherer is part of the Polish team’s expanded LMP2 programme in 2022 as part of their single car ELMS programme.
Sascha Fassbender (team manager): “We are very sorry for Alex. He felt unwell yesterday and to make sure, he took a test and it was positive. We will miss his input and his speed.
“I hope he feels better quickly. But as luck would have it, Fabio Scherer, who joins us in the ELMS in the LMP2, will now do double duty this weekend as he was in Sebring anyway.”
