Starfield's First Companion Character Revealed In New Video
Bethesda Game Studios recently revealed a large mechanical companion character that players will be able to meet in Starfield. The next role-playing game from the esteemed developer will trade fantasy worlds and post-apocalyptic wastelands for a vast solar system to explore. Starfield developers have used "NASA-Punk" to describe the game's sci-fi aesthetic, with the game combining otherworldly elements with grounded real-world science.
Bethesda Game Studios has been solely focused on the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series since 2002, but Starfield will mark an exciting new venture for the team. The upcoming title will maintain the developer's focus on action role-play gameplay, but Starfield will bring the experience to the stars and allow gamers to explore a system of exotic planets. These locations have apparently been colonized by rival factions, each bidding for control of space, and players can choose which group to join at their leisure. The game's blend of fantasy and realism will hopefully create a unique experience, with Starfield's cowboy robots and space cats demonstrating this clash of concepts.
A new behind the scenes Starfield video, posted to Twitter by Starfield, gives an exciting new look at one of the title's companions. The unnamed character is a very large robot with an arsenal of built-in weaponry, making for an intimidating sight. However, a cheerful voice brings Bethesda's distinct charm to the character and affirms that it will be a loyal friend rather than a foe. The robot also calls the player character Captain, suggesting that companions will serve as the crew of the player's spaceship. Game director and internet legend Todd Howard explains that Starfield will put an emphasis on companions, their feelings towards the player character and their reactions to the environment.
While players have just received their first glimpse at a Starfield companion, some Bethesda fans fear that the sci-fi adventure will be delayed. The continued absence of a Starfield gameplay trailer may support this theory, though the recent glimpse behind the scenes suggests that development is progressing smoothly. While Bethesda has crafted enormous worlds for past titles, like Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the task of constructing an entire solar system would be a daunting task for any studio.
Starfield will be Bethesda's first new property in decades, but it seems that the outer space epic will borrow many core elements from past projects. Companions have always been an important part of the role-playing experience, and Starfield's polite war machine looks to follow the trend of lovable allies. Though a release date is still uncertain, gamers will hopefully meet Starfield's cast of colorful companions soon.
