Jeremy Renner Reacts To Chris Evans' New Selfie With An MCU Reference

0

Jeremy Renner reacts with an MCU reference to Chris Evans' selfie from his new film Ghosted. As part of the original Avengers roster as Clint Barton and Steve Rogers, the pair appeared in several Marvel Studios films until Avengers: Endgame, where Evans wrapped up his stint in the franchise. But they've remained friends since then, as evidenced by their fun back-and-forth on social media.

After the Infinity Saga, three of the MCU's founding heroes have officially retired from their superhero gigs. Both Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) died to defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin). Rogers's fate, however, remains bleak. He went back to the '40s to live a life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), but his current status in the timeline is uncertain. Meanwhile, Renner's Hawkeye is among the other half who are still active in the universe, alongside Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Many were convinced that he would meet his end on Disney+'s Hawkeye, but that wasn't the case.

Despite their current MCU fates, Renner and Evans prove that they're still good friends. Evans shared a selfie wearing a purple shirt. Given this, Renner didn't miss the chance to point out that the Captain America actor is channeling Hawkeye since it's the hero's signature color. Evans is working on the new film, Ghosted, directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Deadpool franchise scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The actor stars opposite Ana De Armas, marking their reunion project since critically-acclaimed Knives Out from Rian Johnson. Interestingly, Evans was supposed to work with fellow MCU alumnus Johansson in the project, but the actress had to exit the movie because of a scheduling conflict. Plot details about the flick are still under wraps, but it's described as a high-concept romantic action-adventure, which makes sense considering the scar on Evans' face while shooting it. On the other hand, Renner doesn't have any official film lined up yet, but since he's still alive in the MCU, expect him to reprise Hawkeye in the franchise.

As for the possibility of Evans reprising his role in the MCU? It's difficult to tell at this point. The fact that his current status remains bleak allows Marvel Studios to bring him back anytime easily; in fact, there had been rumors that he's gearing to return to the franchise, alth0ugh most of them were already debunked. Given the nature of the MCU, there's always a chance for the actor to appear, especially since it's clear that he forged some great relationships over the years while playing Captain America. But, if this happens, fans shouldn't expect it to materialize anytime soon.
