Starfield's Persuasion Is Better Than Oblivion's Wheel, Bethesda Says
The developer behind immersive titles like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout 4 claims that its next game, Starfield, will have advanced persuasion options and incredibly advanced dialogue mechanics. Bethesda announced Starfield in 2018 and has stated that it will be released exclusively on Windows and the Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft recently purchased Bethesda's world-renowned studios for $7.5 billion. Starfield has received a release date of November 2022, but very little of the game has been shown to public eyes.
News for Bethesda's ambitious next-gen only title has been incredibly scarce. The lack of gameplay videos or substantial previews has made some fans fear that Starfield could be delayed. However, showing too much information has significantly hurt developers in the past. Cyberpunk 2077 infamously released gameplay trailers that showed many features that didn't make it into the game's release. This caused a tremendous amount of backlash and legal action due to misleading advertising. On the other side of that coin, games like Elden Ring didn't reveal much of the game leading up to its release, leading fans to achieve a wonderful sense of discovery when playing the game and uncovering its secrets. With Starfield set to release in less than seven months, Bethesda seems ready to share more information.
Fans received a surprising developer update for Starfield this morning that revealed new information and teased the game's advanced dialogue options, which will allow players to persuade the game's characters in revolutionary ways. Starfield's official Twitter account posted a video starring the game's creators chatting about the game and what features players can look forward to. In the video below, the developers comment on how Starfield's dialogue options have evolved from games like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion to make conversations in the game feel more natural and immersive. If players hope to become a spy for one of the game's many factions, they will need to learn how to use the game's persuasion and dialogue options.
Branching dialogue options have become something of an RPG staple of late. Bethesda's titles have enabled players to interact with NPCs and choose dialogue options that result in different responses, but it tends to be pretty obvious which dialogue options players needed to select to progress through the game. Other RPGs like Mass Effect and Oblivion contain a dialogue wheel that enables players to choose special dialogue lines when speaking to a character. Choosing the right words and having the proper stats could lead players into unique situations many others would never experience. Starfield will contain thousands more dialogue lines than previous games like Skyrim and Fallout 4, so players should have ample opportunity to interact with the game's advanced dialogue options.
When Bethesda originally released Skyrim in 2011, it set the bar for immersive action RPG games. That game was so successful that it has been re-released seven times across multiple gaming systems. With each new update revealing more of the game's advanced mechanics and vast universe to explore, Bethesda may raise the bar for immersive entertainment once again with Starfield when it releases this November.
Starfield will be available November 11, 2022 on Xbox Series X|S and Windows.
