Until Dawn Dev's Next Game Is a Slasher Horror Perfect For Movie Fans
Publisher 2K Games and Until Dawn developer Supermassive have teased The Quarry, a teen horror game perfect for fans of the slasher genre.
Publisher 2K Games has partnered with Dark Pictures Anthology developer Supermassive Games for The Quarry, an all-new teen horror game set to launch sometime this summer. Rumors about the Until Dawn creator's next game began swirling some months ago, with speculation pointing to the crew once more partnering with PlayStation. Cursory details regarding The Quarry hit the web a few weeks thereafter, thanks in large part to a trademark filing.
Since releasing its star-studded PS4 exclusive in 2015, Supermassive has kept busy with several horror-centric projects, including a couple of PlayStation VR titles set in the Until Dawn universe - Rush of Blood and The Inpatient. The crew launched a completely different horror franchise with publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment in 2019, introducing players to The Dark Pictures Anthology. Notably, Supermassive signed an eight-game deal with Bandai Namco for the anthology series, a move that seemingly took the team off the board in terms of its ability to develop a much-coveted Until Dawn sequel or partner with any other publishers. It now seems as though such concerns were unwarranted.
Today, March 17, 2K Games and Supermassive Games teased a new horror experience that will launch on PC and consoles in the coming months. Titled The Quarry, Supermassive's latest looks as though it will provide the perfect adventure for fans of slashers, though the teaser itself does not boast much in the way of concrete details. Fortunately, Supermassive plans to lift the lid tomorrow in a reveal slated to go live at 9:00AM PT. Watch the trailer in the video linked below:
Despite the understandable vagueness of the teaser, a fair few things are made clear. Camp counselors driving to a summer camp known as Hackett's Quarry get into a car accident after trying to avoid "something" in the road. Like beloved slasher horror title Until Dawn, it appears all hell will break loose regardless of what The Quarry's teen protagonists do following the accident. Needless to say, fans of Supermassive's hit PS4 exclusive could be in for quite the treat come this summer.
2K Games' attachment to this particular project also makes it clear The Quarry bears no connection to Supermassive's Dark Pictures Anthology series. Dark Pictures faithful need not worry, though, since trademark filings from earlier this year suggest the studio has at least five more installments in the works for its anthology. According to said filings, the next five entries will be titled as follows: The Craven Man, O Death, Directive 8020, Intercession, and Winterfold. Supermassive and Bandai Namco have yet to formally detail future plans for the series in question.
The Quarry hits PC and consoles this summer.
