Teen Wolf: 10 Characters That Were Underappreciated | Screen Rant

0

There no question that Teen Wolf fans have their favorites. Characters like Scott, Stiles, and Lydia, who become the core of the series, are beloved by the audience. There are, however, a lot of other characters who come and go throughout the show who were underappreciated during their time.

The most underappreciated characters in the series are often those who had a lot of story potential that simply went unnoticed, characters that vanished with no explanation, and characters that were hated unfairly by many fans when they were introduced.

Ms. Morrell initially seems like a guidance counselor who is just a little too observant for her own good. In reality, she's right in the middle of werewolf pack issues when people start dying in Beacon Hills, seemingly as part of ritual sacrifices. Ms. Morrell is often written off as a supporting character that went nowhere, but she has a great history.

Not only is she related to Alan Deaton, who is one of Scott's most valuable allies in the series, but she's been heavily involved in the werewolf politics in the area for years, keeping herself alive by allying with different groups as necessary. She's an incredibly smart character that the audience didn't connect with because she just wasn't involved enough in the story.

Brett is one of the few supernatural characters in the series who isn't in the McCall Pack and who isn't one of their enemies, but pops up repeatedly throughout the show when supernatural occurrences happen. He and his sister are werewolves and members of Satomi's pack who find themselves in a world of trouble when humans start hunting them.

Brett is actually a lot like Scott. Though he's not an Alpha, he and his sister look out for one another and other supernatural beings. They give Scott information when they can, and they're clearly tough, as they spend much of their teen years getting away from opponents stronger than them.

When Erica was first transformed into a werewolf by Derek to create a new pack, she wasn't an audience favorite. Erica was impulsive, always in the middle of Stiles and Scott's business, and constantly used her new abilities in public. While that might not have made her beloved, it certainly made her a breath of fresh air in the series.

Erica becomes a more sympathetic character as her time in the show continues as well. She just wants to belong, and she thinks her werewolf abilities will help her with that, but they never do. She's not truly appreciated by the audience until she and Boyd are targeted by the Alpha Pack.

Deaton is one of those characters that the audience really takes for granted. He's involved in a lot of Scott's stories without being involved in the big action sequences, so he tends to be overlooked.

Most of what the pack learns about the supernatural world, however, comes from Deaton. Deaton has been in the thick of things while trying to remain a neutral player since long before any of the teenagers learned about the existence of werewolves or other creatures.

Corey mostly appears in the series as a bridge between Theo's pack and Scott's. He's Mason's love interest, but he's also a pretty fascinating player because Corey has abilities never before seen in the show until Theo turns him into a chimera. Corey is able to completely blend in with his surroundings, having chameleon-like abilities that are never fully explored in the show and that no one else has.

Corey's presence in the show also provides the audience a window into just how close Mason and Liam are. Liam doesn't like Corey at first, though he never really articulates why he doesn't approve of his best friend spending so much time with him. The audience doesn't get to see a lot of Mason and Liam's friendship outside of Mason being interested in the werewolf lore.

Parrish is a complicated character. It's clear that he was initially being set up as a potential love interest for Lydia, but instead, his supernatural status as a hellhound ended up being what connected him to the banshee.

While Parrish isn't one of the core teenagers, he's integral to the story in later seasons because his hellhound side is fully committed to hiding the supernatural from regular humans. He's got a great sense of humor, is always willing to help, and never really gets his due in the show.

Josh is probably a character that a lot of Teen Wolf fans won't even remember unless his specific storylines are pointed out to them. Like Corey, he's a member of Theo's pack, turned into a chimera and forced into a pack he doesn't choose.

Josh is interesting because, unlike Tracy, he's not loyal to Theo. Unlike Hayden and Corey, he doesn't actually have ties to the McCall Pack either. Theo also kills him twice to use him in his own bid to become more powerful. Josh is a victim of circumstance, but he has some great character moments, like bargaining with Malia in Eichen House to help one another get their friends out when they can't do it alone. He agrees to help Malia with an injured Kira if she helps him with an injured Corey, and it's the kind of cooperation that the show could have explored even more. He also has some really fun electrical powers.

Though Danny eventually became a fan favorite, it wasn't until after the character was no longer on the show that the audience began to ask for more of him. Danny suddenly disappears with no explanation, other than the unofficial one that he must have graduated high school.

Danny doesn't have much to do on the show outside of being Jackson's best friend - or so it seems. He's actually incredibly observant, knowing about the supernatural goings-on in town without getting drawn into them. He even writes a paper on Ley lines, something that comes into play in the series, with no explanation for how he became interested in them. Danny is so much smarter than the other characters give him credit for.

Kira is the definition of an underappreciated character in Teen Wolf. Initially introduced as a romantic interest for Scott after his breakup with Allison, fans wanted nothing to do with the new student in Beacon Hills, which was unfortunate, as the series did begin to craft an interesting backstory with her family and the mythology surrounding kitsune.

Kira is written out of the series with a promise that she's going to learn how to control her power... and then never returns. Actress Arden Cho also isn't returning for the Teen Wolf movie, and fans are now beginning to appreciate the character (and the actress) a lot more as they've learned that Cho not being offered the same pay as other actresses invited back may be to blame.

If Corey is underappreciated, so is Mason. That's largely a result of Mason seemingly filling the "token human" role in the next generation of supernatural beings, but not entirely, as the fabled Beast used Mason's body as his own. "Token humans" is the name for those characters who are embroiled in supernatural drama without actually becoming a supernatural creature, like Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Matt in The Vampire Diaries, or Stiles in Teen Wolf.

The trouble is that when the series already has Stiles, fans aren't as receptive to Mason seemingly taking his place. That's a shame, because Mason is enthusiastically fascinated by the supernatural, extremely loyal to Liam, and very much willing to learn from Scott and Stiles.
