A Walk To Remember's Shane West Wants To Work With Mandy Moore Again
Shane West would love to work with his A Walk to Remember co-star Mandy Moore again, provided they can find the right project. Romance novelist Nicholas Sparks has seen 11 of his books get adapted into movies, but only a handful have truly managed to withstand the test of time. A Walk to Remember, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is one of those movies. The emotional 2002 drama explores the blossoming young love between straight-laced minister's daughter Jamie (Moore) and troublemaker Landon (West), which is disrupted by a devastating illness.
A Walk to Remember wasn't exactly a critical darling upon release, earning mixed reviews that oftentimes skewed negative. However, it has become something of an enduring classic over the years thanks to West and Moore's earnest chemistry. With the 20th anniversary having arrived, A Walk to Remember has been on the forefront of its stars' minds; for example, Moore spoke about the possibility of a reboot earlier this year and suggested pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo as the new Jamie.
For his part, West still holds plenty of affection for A Walk to Remember and Moore. He recently sat down with Screen Rant to promote his new film Outsiders, which is out in theaters and on VOD. When asked if he would like to work with Moore again, West responded favorably to the idea, but also shared his biggest caveat. West said:
"We'd love to work together again. We talk about it all the time. It just depends on, 'What would that project be?' You don't want to mess up what you had already started. You want it to make sense so that it's not just some sort of cash grab or something like that. You want it to be something that could stand out as well."
West's desire to truly make their onscreen reunion worthwhile is admirable and fair. It would be a shame if Jamie and Landon finally got a second chance somewhere, only for it to be a disappointing story. Still, it's safe to say that fans would be thrilled to see Moore and West come back together onscreen. As seen recently with 13 Going on 30's Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, even the smallest reunion can make everyone nostalgic and excited. It's been 20 years since West and Moore starred in A Walk to Remember, so it would be wonderful to see how their onscreen chemistry has evolved since then.
If West and Moore were to star in another big screen romance, one just has to hope it is happier than A Walk to Remember. Traditional studio romcoms are seeing a resurgence this year, with movies like Marry Me and The Lost City telling swoon-worthy stories for audiences to enjoy. Perhaps Moore and West could find themselves a romcom of their own. Their reunion would make an excellent hook. With Moore wrapping up on This Is Us and West completing a string of actioners, perhaps a classic romance would be the perfect thing for the both of them. Hollywood, please make it happen.
