Marvel's Avengers Needs A Midnight Suns Crossover | Screen Rant
Marvel's Avengers is in the midst of a content lull lately, but it could benefit greatly from a crossover event with the upcoming game, Marvel's Midnight Suns. During this relatively dry spell of content, Marvel's Avengers offered Guardians of the Galaxy players free skins in what appeared to be a crossover between the two games. However, while the cross-promotion between the two resulted in free Avengers: Endgame skins (for the players that hadn't already bought them), it fell short of offering players anything interesting to actually do. A potential Marvel's Midnight Suns crossover could change this, giving Marvel's Avengers some exciting new content while also helping to promote the release of the upcoming turn-based Marvel title. Additionally, it could be the perfect opportunity to introduce supernatural elements into Marvel's Avengers, tying it into Marvel's Midnight Suns' theme.
While developer Crystal Dynamics has recently given some information on upcoming content in Marvel's Avengers, it is still unclear whether the game will be receiving any more story content moving the story past the Avengers' big battle with Klaw in November 2021's Klaw Raid: Discordant Sound update. Additionally, while Marvel's Avengers continues to cycle several of its older limited-time events into rotation, no new limited-time events have been announced or even hinted at. This has left players stuck playing the same handful of limited-time events over and over again, the last of which first debuted with the War for Wakanda expansion in August of 2021. A potential crossover event with Marvel's Midnight Suns could help to alleviate both of these issues, providing not only a new limited-time event with new challenges and rewards, but also come with accompanying story elements that can tide players over until the next big update.
With Marvel's Midnight Suns' delay into the second half of 2022, there has never been a better time for the game to start getting Marvel fans hyped over its story and supernatural focus. While the two games are not officially connected and don't share the same story universe, creating a crossover event with another Marvel game that already has a fanbase just waiting for new content is a great way for developer Firaxis to start securing pre-orders for the game. Meanwhile, a crossover event could help bring players back into Marvel's Avengers, including potentially prompting them to purchase items from the in-game marketplace.
In addition to providing new challenges, rewards, and story beats to Marvel's Avengers, a Marvel's Midnight Suns crossover event could also introduce Doctor Strange, one of Marvel's most underused characters in video games. Doctor Strange is one of Marvel's Avengers players' most requested heroes, and a Marvel's Midnight Suns crossover event would be the perfect opportunity to introduce him. Based on the Midnight Suns trailers, Doctor Strange looks to play an important role in the game, which would make sense given he's the Sorcerer Supreme. Marvel's Avengers has often kept itself more grounded, with many of the enemies and heroes having gained their abilities through technology or science experiments (with a few exceptions, like Thor). A Midnight Suns event could finally introduce supernatural elements into the game, leaving the door open for more supernatural heroes and villains down the line.
Unfortunately, as of yet, there have been no announcements on future events, leaving players playing the same recycled events in Marvel's Avengers for the time being. If Crystal Dynamics and Firaxis were to team up to design a crossover event in Marvel's Avengers that featured Midnight Suns, it could help to alleviate the content drought of the former game while promoting the latter. While it would obviously benefit Marvel's Avengers players by providing new content, it would also be beneficial to those looking forward to Marvel's Midnight Suns looking for something to play while they wait for the game's release.
