MCU Has A Mystery Space Show: Here's Which Characters Could Be In It
Marvel Studios is developing a mystery space show for Disney+, and there is a selection of specific characters who might star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe project. The MCU has utilized cosmic elements since 2011, but it wasn't until 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy that space became a bigger part of the shared universe. It played a massive role in the Infinity Saga by the end, thanks to Thanos and the Infinity Stones. There are multiple MCU Phase 4 movies set to explore the wonders of space, but now a mystery MCU space show is in the works, sparking speculation about which characters could be involved.
The MCU hasn't fully embraced the cosmic side of Marvel in Phase 4 yet, but that will change as more movies come. Thor: Love and Thunder marks the return of Chris Hemsworth's Thor and is expected to include plenty of space elements as he fights Gorr the God Butcher. Afterwards, The Marvels is also expanding the history of space, as the Skrulls and Kree will both have their stories fleshed out. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has long been touted as the movie that sets up the MCU's cosmic future, with James Gunn's film said to be the foundation for the next 10-20 years of space stories. These three upcoming MCU movies are utilizing characters like Thor, Captain Marvel, and the Guardians of the Galaxy, creating many potential options for the mystery MCU space show.
Details on the mystery MCU series are still under wraps, which means speculation is free to run wild theorizing which characters could be involved. Disney+ has already been used as a vehicle to flesh out existing characters like Scarlet Witch and Falcon, but it is also planned to introduce new heroes like Moon Knight and She-Hulk. This means the mystery MCU space TV show could star an existing Marvel hero or introduce a new character or team to the shared universe. Marvel's sprawling Phase 4 plans leave a lot of options on the table when considering what this series could be. Here are some of the best options for who could lead the mystery MCU space show.
Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie has long been viewed as a prime candidate to receive a Disney+ spinoff. A Valkyrie series was one of the most requested ideas from fans after Marvel confirmed its intentions to make shows for Disney's streaming service. Her spinoff would be the perfect place to explore solo adventures, whether they take place before Thor: Ragnarok, filling in the gaps until Avengers: Endgame, or building upon her story in Thor: Love and Thunder. The latter might be the best option, as the MCU can still fill in pieces of Valkyrie's backstory in a show that pushes her arc forward. If the mystery MCU space series does star Valkyrie, it could see her take up a mission as Asgard's king after the events of Thor 4. Marvel could even use Valkyrie's solo adventure to bring back Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) or whoever becomes Asgardian's new queen. This could also be an opportunity to finally introduce Beta Ray Bill to the MCU.
Marvel's new space Disney+ show could also be the place for Harry Styles' Starfox/Eros to appear next. There is no word yet on if Eternals 2 will happen, but a Starfox Disney+ show could be something Marvel Studios is considering. The reaction to Harry Styles' casting was quite positive and fans are eager to see more after his cameo in Eternals' post-credits scene. The Starfox show has loads of potential to expand the MCU as well, as this could be the place Marvel explores Eros' connection to the Eternals, his time as the Prince of Titan, and what it was like to be Thanos' brother. This could make the series an MCU prequel primarily that leads to him and Pip the Troll meeting up with Makkari, Druig, and Thena. Depending on what happens with the Eternals franchise, a Starfox show could also push these characters closer to finding the rest of the Eternals.
Nova is one of the new characters that the mystery MCU space show could also star. Marvel Studios has already planted the seeds for Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy by introducing the Nova Corps. However, a Nova Disney+ series could be the chance for Richard Rider's story to take center stage. Kevin Feige has teased that they think Nova has immediate MCU potential now, and there is even speculation he'll appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although Richard Rider's story begins on Earth, Nova's series could focus on his time after he's already joined the Nova Corps and possibly helps rebuild the group after Thanos' destroyed Xandar. As one of Marvel's greatest cosmic heroes, it would be fitting for Nova to lead the first major MCU space show. The show could even be a place to bring back Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly) and Nova Prime (Glenn Close), while setting up the Annihilation Wave as the next big cosmic event.
Marvel Studios' mystery space show could also be an Adam Warlock spinoff for Will Poulter after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The all-powerful character was set up at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but he'll finally make his debut in the threequel. It is widely expected that Adam Warlock will go on to be a major character in the MCU's future, possibly even as the leader of the next iteration of the Guardians. Since his introduction is coming as part of the end of the original Guardians team, though, a Disney+ series could be the perfect place to flesh out Adam Warlock after his debut. The series could even be an opportunity to explore his place among the great cosmic beings and see Adam Warlock, Pip the Troll, and members of the Guardians form a version of the Infinity Watch to oversee the well-being of space.
As easy as it is to look at what is already established in the MCU to consider possibilities for the mystery Marvel space show, it's also worth looking to future franchises. Marvel Studios is working on a Fantastic Four reboot, and while this Disney+ show likely won't star any of the main team members, it could be a place to introduce Norrin Radd AKA the Silver Surfer. The powerful cosmic being and herald of Galactus is sure to join the MCU at some point, but a Silver Surfer standalone show could be where he makes his debut. This would give audiences a chance to see Radd's backstory, revealing how he sacrificed his freedom to save his home planet from Galactus' consumption. It'd be a smart change for the MCU to make Silver Surfer's eventual clash with the Fantastic Four a bit more complicated. Depending on what unfolds in the series, Silver Surfer could also lay the foundation for him to join the Annihilators - not to mention feature the MCU debut of Galactus.
Just as the mystery MCU space show could help lay the groundwork for the Fantastic Four franchise, it could do the same for X-Men by focusing on the Starjammers. The Starjammers are a group of cosmic bandits who escape captivity from the Shi'ar Empire and fight back against their power across the galaxy. The original Starjammers team was led by a human named Corsair and also featured Ch'od, Hepzibah, and Raza. The Starjammers are connected to the X-Men through Corsair, whose original name is Christopher Summer - making him the father of Scott Summers, the future X-Men leader better known as Cyclops. Marvel Studios will likely look for a unique way to introduce mutants and the X-Men mythology to the MCU to avoid too many comparisons to Fox's X-Men franchise. Since the movies didn't explore the X-Men's ties to space, Starjammers could make for a fun cosmic adventure show on Disney+ that also sets up the MCU's future mutants.
