Discovery Princess, the newest ship in the Princess fleet, arrived at the Port of Los Angeles for her first U.S. port call on Saturday, March 19.

The new cruise liner docked just ahead of an inaugural season of Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages before heading up the coast to begin a season of seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle. .

The ship is berthed at the Lane’s former spot just north of the Outer Harbor, at the end of Miner Street, in San Pedro.

The lavish ship sailed through Angels Gate with a wave of fanfare, accompanied by a Los Angeles Fire Department fireboat escort.

Discovery Princess aligns with eight other ships that have returned to service for the Santa-Clarita-based company, the world’s second-largest cruise line.

The 3,660-guest ship is the sixth and final of the company’s new Royal-Class vessels, officials said. A company statement said Discovery Princess will tap new technologies to reduce fuel consumption and treat wastewater.
