Elden Ring Player's Sonic The Hedgehog Build Wins PvP With Spin Dash
One wouldn’t expect two games as vastly different as Elden Ring and Sonic The Hedgehog to go well together, but one player recently brought SEGA’s Blue Blur into the harsh world of the Lands Between - complete with his signature Spin Dash. Elden Ring has only been out about a month, but FromSoftware’s latest dark RPG is already being considered one of the highest-selling video games of the year. Twitch streams of Elden Ring quickly became some of the social media website’s most viewed feeds, memes involving Elden Ring bosses like Radahn have spread like wildfire across the internet, and FromSoftware recently announced that it is looking to branch Elden Ring into a media franchise to capitalize on the game’s overnight success.
Written with the help of legendary Game Of Thrones scribe George R.R. Martin, Elden Ring puts players in the role of Tarnished, a fully customizable exile on a quest to gather the lost fragments of the titular Elden Ring and become the new Elden Lord. As to be expected with any video game featuring an in-depth character creator, players have recreated various fictional characters to place in the medieval world of Elden Ring. These range from somewhat-understandable choices like Ciri from The Witcher 3 or Gandalf from The Lord Of The Rings, while others have been far more outlandish - such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys, or even Ross Gellar from Friends.
Reddit user itsmarcoyolo recently posted a gameplay video montage to the Elden Ring subreddit showing them competing in Elden Ring’s multiplayer PVP mode as Sonic The Hedgehog - or at least a human Tarnished made to look like the Blue Blur with blue body paint and bushy, unkempt hair. As the classic Sonic Adventure 2 theme “Live And Learn” plays in the background, itsmarcoyolo’s character attacks other players with a lighting-infused roll that somewhat resembles Sonic’s signature spin-dash attack. Other Elden Ring players commenting on itsmarcoyolo’s video have reacted to their Sonic-inspired playthrough in jest, jokingly asking if Sonic drops the Elden Ring when hit and even comparing the Sonic Tarnished to the character’s initial design in the first Sonic The Hedgehog movie - which was famously scrapped after fan backlash in favor of a more game-accurate look.
Sonic’s recent appearance in Elden Ring comes at an exciting time for him, as SEGA’s hyperactive mascot is set to return to the big screen in the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which will see Sonic join forces with Tails and Knuckles for the first time in live-action. On the gaming side of things, Sonic Frontiers is said to be launching sometime later this year. This new mainline Sonic adventure looks to take the long-running Sonic franchise in a new direction by placing Sonic in a colorful open world similar to recent titles like The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Kirby And The Forgotten Land, as well as adding different combat styles and exploration options to go with Sonic’s trademark speed.
At first glance, Sonic The Hedgehog and Elden Ring are as different as day and night, with one being a kid-friendly platformer starring an anthropomorphic hedgehog and the other being a dark medieval RPG with extremely brutal and challenging combat. However, both games do feature rings as a highly desirable object for the player character, and as it turns out players, can recreate Sonic's spin-dash in Elden Ring, even if the speedy Hedgehog himself isn’t nearly as cute as he is in his home series.
