Photos: Fremont gathering celebrates Holi — the Festival of Colors

0

Color was in the air and all over people’s clothes, hair and faces as hundreds gathered Saturday to celebrate Holi at Mission San Jose High School. Bollywood music played and gulal, a colorful powder made from a mixture of starch and dyes, was sold near the entrance. Stalls and food trucks offered all sorts of fare as participants celebrated the festival with riots of colors.

Parking was free at the high school, but admissions was $6 at the entrance. The event was organized by Festival of Globe, the Fremont Hindu Temple, and the Federation of Indo-Americans.

Holi is a Hindu festival also known as the Festival of Spring, the Festival of Colors or the Festival of Love. The celebration marks the eternal love of Radha Krishna. It also signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it celebrates the victory of Lord Vishnu as Narasimha Narayana over Hiranyakashipu.
